We are incredibly grateful to the DRA (Dubuque Racing Association) for awarding Opening Doors a $35,000 grant! 🎉

As the need for our services continues to grow and our programs become busier, so does the need for individualized support for the women and families we serve. This generous funding will allow us to expand our case management staff, giving residents additional support as they work toward stability, independence, and permanent housing.

Case management is at the heart of what we do. Our team walks alongside residents as they navigate housing, employment, finances, mental and physical health, recovery, parenting, and the many other pieces that come with rebuilding their lives.

Thank you, DRA, for investing not only in Opening Doors, but in the women and children who walk through our doors every day. Your support allows us to meet our community’s growing needs while continuing to provide the individualized care each resident deserves. 💚

We also want to give a special shout out to Mandy Miller, from The Dubuque Racing Association who came down to Teresa Shelter to take a tour and learn more about all of our services we offer!

We were so grateful to welcome an awesome group of volunteers from RSM US LLP to Maria House for some day of giving back!

They rolled up their sleeves and jumped right in — helping us with organizing, cleaning, and outdoor projects around Maria House. 🧹🌿🏡 Their hard work helped freshen up our space and tackle some of those projects that make a BIG difference for our residents and staff.

It takes a community to make Opening Doors feel like healing, hope, & home, and we are incredibly thankful for organizations like RSM that are willing to give their time and energy to support our mission.

Thank you, RSM, for spending some time with us and helping make Maria House shine! We appreciate you!

We are incredibly grateful to have been selected to receive a "Safe Sleep Makeover" through the and their amazing partnership with !

Thanks to this generous gift, Opening Doors received new twin and full size mattresses, bed frames, pillows, and sheets! This is everything we need to create comfortable, welcoming sleep spaces for the women and children who call our shelter home.

For someone experiencing homelessness, having a safe, clean, and comfortable place to rest is so much more than a bed. It’s a chance to exhale, recharge, and feel a little more at home while working toward what comes next.

We are SO excited to get everything set up and ready for our residents! ❤️

A huge thank you to the National Women’s Shelter Network and Mattress Firm for investing in the comfort, dignity, and well-being of the women and children we serve. We are incredibly grateful for your support!

Please help us give a BIG Opening Doors welcome to our new Development & Marketing Director, Elena Dominguez!

Elena is a Dubuque native who brings more than four years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, communications, and community engagement. Elena also has a background in social work that makes her an especially great fit for the work we do every day.

Before joining us, Elena held several roles at Clarke University, where she spent her time building relationships, connecting people to meaningful opportunities to give back, and sharing stories of impact. And now, we’re lucky enough to have her doing all of that right here at Opening Doors!

Elena will be working to grow our community support, strengthen relationships with our amazing donors and partners, and help us tell the stories of the incredible women and children we have the privilege of serving.

We are SO excited to have her on our team and can’t wait for our community to get to know her!

Our Executive Director recently had the opportunity to attend the Housing Iowa Conference in Des Moines, joining housing professionals and service providers from across the state to connect, learn, and share ideas.

We were especially proud to see so many familiar faces from Dubuque represented! 💚 Having local housing representatives and service providers together in the same space is a great reminder of how important collaboration is as we work toward safe, stable housing and stronger communities.

We’re grateful for opportunities like this to build connections, learn from others doing this important work across Iowa, and bring new ideas and resources back to the women and children we serve.

Proud to represent Opening Doors and proud to be part of such a dedicated Dubuque community!!
