*** LOCKED IN!! ***

When: APRIL 4, 2024 5pm-7pm
Where: THE SPOT!!!
(Event and registration page coming soon!)

What if I told you that the “Generations Unveiled: Black Elders Sharing Dubuque’s Untold Stories” event is the inaugural celebration of the true Black history of Dubuque that can be held once a month or every other month? Join us and help it grow!

What if I told you I can set up workshops with our elders, throughout the community?

What if I told you this is growing faster than I thought it would?

What if I told you I’m working on a way to secure a place for the Black community to call their own, and within this place, I would like to create space to showcase Black artists year ’round?

How about a place dedicated to the lives of Nathaniell Morgan and Mrs. Ruby Sutton?

Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Well there is such a place, but ya girl doesn’t have the finances to procure the land and building…. YET.
This is something I’ve been talking about for a long time now and I’m making it happen.

I need the help of community. There will be meetings scheduled to discuss resources and finances needed going forward.

I need people that want to be a part of something bigger than what’s already here, and together, we can make magic happen.

Right now, this is a labor of love and the biggest chance to permanently have Black lives showcased in a place of our own creation.

Help me create a TEAM, so it’s not just an “I” project. We have filmmakers that need a place to create, we can build that space. We can create a space to have podcasts that will showcase OUR stories by OUR people.

Let’s stop accepting the narrative from other people about our people. Let’s honor our elders while they’re here to pass the torch, thus creating that legacy to shine for the younger generations.

Think about having Black authors, artists, speakers, health care, solid financial advice for our people, that may not have been taught to us for us.

This, along with Guardians Against Bullying, will be my focus going forward. Which, by the way, will also be housed in this space.

Let’s work together folks, it’s way past time. Let’s show our elders something they can be proud of. AND, let’s show pride in ourselves and our community.

In my loudest and proudest voice…. LET’s MAKE MAGIC TOGETHER!!

*A special ask for the older residents in the community *

This community needs to hear how it was for Black families that have been here thru the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.

These words HAVE TO come from the Black leaders of that time. I think it’s time to learn the stories of the ones that have done all of this before and thrived.
I think it will be easier for others to understand and pick up where they left off.

So, let’s make it happen. I for one, would feel like I’m at my grandma’s feet, listening to stories about how Birmingham and Chicago used to be. It’s amazing to hear.

It’s time to listen and take to heart what they say. Skin folk should tell the story of skin folks, not other people.
