Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a time to honor the strength, resilience, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous communities while acknowledging the lasting impacts of forced removal, land dispossession, and violence against Native peoples.

These historical injustices continue to affect Indigenous communities today. American Indian and Alaska Native women and girls experience disproportionately high rates of violence, often perpetrated by non-Native individuals. They also face barriers to accessing needed services, alongside ongoing gaps in comprehensive reporting, investigation, and prosecution at the federal, state, and local levels.

We remain committed to amplifying survivor voices and fighting for a future rooted in safety, dignity, accountability, and justice, everyday. 💜

A missing 16 year old girl has been recovered in Oakland after police pulled over a car and found the teenager inside. Court papers identify the male driver as 28 year old Stockton resident Jordan Sanders, who police allege had been forcing the teen to work off a $5,000 fee before she could leave him. He has been charged with human trafficking of a minor.

Young people experiencing exploitation may face manipulation, false promises, violence, threats, and debt used to keep them trapped. Without safe housing or access to support, leaving one dangerous situation can mean returning to another.

We must continue to advocate for protections and build environments where young people can ask for help without fear of punishment or shame. Every young person deserves a safe place to turn with support without judgment, and a path out of exploitation.

A woman was rescued in Fairfield after a concerned community member noticed signs of distress and contacted police. Investigators reportedly found that she was a victim of human trafficking, and her suspected trafficker, 36-year-old Kenan Shackelford, was arrested.

Knowing the red flags can save a life:
-Someone appears fearful and unable to speak freely.
-Signs of malnutrition and bruising.
-Wearing clothing inappropriate for the weather.
-Another person answers for them or closely monitors them.
-They seem isolated from friends, family, or the community.
-They show signs of intimidation, coercion, or exploitation.
-Their identification, money, communication, or movement appears to be controlled by someone else.

One sign alone doesn't necessarily mean trafficking, but patterns should not be ignored. If you see something that feels wrong, contact the appropriate authorities or an anti-trafficking organization and report it. Contact the Love Never Fails hotline for help in the Bay Area: (844) 249-2698.

What a tremendous night celebrating 25 years of love, service, and transformation for survivors of human trafficking in Georgia, and a pledge for 25 more! Honored to celebrate Wellspring Living’s incredible team, including founder Mary Francis, Executive Director Heather Lively, Hope Awardee Andrea Hipwell, and Stacy Ed of FLT 316, who helps fly survivors to safety across the Southeast.

Thank you, Mary Francis, for inspiring so many service agencies and shining a light on the needs of survivors, and thank you to the brilliant Wellspring staff for all you do!
