📢 Why the "Security Call-In" Matters to Our Union Family

Brothers and Sisters,
When one of our own experiences the loss of a loved one, our priority as a Union is to show up for them. We want to make sure they receive a bereavement card and a Bible to let them know their Union family is standing with them in their grief.

We’ve had instances where a member didn't receive these items. When we looked into why, it always came down to one simple breakdown: the call-in procedure.

🤝 It’s Not Just a Rule - It’s How We Look Out For Each Other
Here is why the way you report your absence matters so much:
When you call or text your supervisor directly, they can update your time off in SAP. However, this does not put your name on the official security call-in log.

How the Union Knows: The Union relies strictly on the official security call-in log to know when a member is out on bereavement. If you bypass security, we simply have no way of knowing you experienced a loss.

The Result: A member is grieving, and the Union remains in the dark—meaning a card or Bible doesn't get sent out.

🛑 What We Need Every Member to Do:
If you must take bereavement leave, always call Security first to report it. Even if you have already spoken to your supervisor, that security call is the single step that ensures you are placed on the log and that your Union is notified.

Let’s keep communicating and looking out for one another. If you know a coworker is dealing with a loss, gently ask them: "Hey, did you make sure to call Security?

In solidarity,
Chaplaincy Committee
