Nothing radical about standing up for workers.

05/24/2026

Have We Lost the Meaning of Solidarity?

Solidarity once meant workers standing together with loyalty, respect, and unity. It meant understanding that our strength comes from protecting one another, not tearing each other down.

Today, too many people are quicker to run to HR, management, supervisors, social media, or outside sources about fellow union members instead of speaking directly to each other first. Rumors spread faster than facts, and division replaces unity.

That is not solidarity.

We will not always agree on everything, and disagreements are normal. But respect should remain even when opinions differ. Real solidarity means communicating with one another honestly, handling problems with maturity, and remembering that attacking each other only weakens our union.

Brotherhood and sisterhood are more than slogans. They mean supporting one another during difficult times, resolving issues respectfully, and standing together instead of turning against each other.

The labor movement was built by workers who understood that divided workers are weak workers. Unity was their strength, and it should still be ours today.

We should ask ourselves:
Have we forgotten how to communicate with respect?
Have we allowed division to become more important than unity?
Have we lost sight of what solidarity truly means?

A strong union is built on honesty, accountability, mutual respect, and unity — not gossip, retaliation, or division.

Solidarity is not just a word.
It is a responsibility.
