Buckner Farm Development Update:
From: MVCA Civic Action Committee
The 12 acre property in the Center of Muirfield, off of Drake Rd., near Springburn and Carnoustie has been in the Buckner family since the 1940’s, and the owner did not accept the offer from Muirfield’s developers to sell his land. So it remained, surrou8nded by Muirfield homes and streets, a quaint, eccentric place with at one time three old horses behind the barbed wire fence surrounding the ramshackle home and outbuildings. Old cars and trucks, and farm parts, lay abandoned there, with trees growing up inside the rusting structures and broken glass littering the grounds. The MVCA tried several times to convince Dublin City officials to purchase the land for a passive park, as the City has parks in just about all subdivisions of any size, but none in Muirfield, which comprises over 20% of the population of the city. Sadly. these requests were always denied.
Earlier this year, developer Ty Quinn, father of Brady Quinn, approached the City with interest in purchasing from the estate of the late owner, but was deterred perhaps by costs of infrastructure needs, clean-up costs and current zoning which allows I think 12 homes to be built there. No purchase was consummated. In the past few months another developer has come forward, William Adams, and he has put forth a tentative plan to develop it with 24 homes, using the small-lot with a focus on accumulating land into a green space reserve concept, including a buffer zone of green space separating these homes from adjacent Muirfield homes and pathway. He has approached the Muirfield Association with the plan as he would like it to become part of Muirfield Village, incorporating the same deed restrictions the rest of us have, so that the homes would be consistent with Muirfield standards and would have to be approved in design and landscaping by the Muirfield Design Control Committee.
This Thursday at 6:30 pm, in Council Chambers in City Hall, he will present his proposal in an informal review to members of Dublin’s Planning and Zoning Board. No approval is sought nor will it be given nor denied at this time. This is just a preliminary meeting by Mr. Adams or his representative to begin a dialogue with City officials and staff. You can see the proposal in detail at this website, and it offers us all an easy way to submit comments and suggestions on the opening page: http://www.dublin.oh.us/planning/projects/12-043/index.php At some point following that meeting on Thursday, Mr. Adams has said he will present his updated or revised proposal to the Muirfield Association Board for input. The meeting Thursday is open to the public.
