History
SHKKCA is a self-governing organization run by an elected, all-volunteer board. SHKKCA is a lively, committed group of neighbors who work together on projects ranging from zoning issues, blockwatch, neighborhood beautification activities and neighborhood social events, to name but a few. Since its creation in August 1986, the Shannon Heights, Kilbannon, Kildaire Civic Association has play
ed an active role, and in many cases, was the initiating force, for the following accomplishments and area improvements:
Separate turn lane and traffic signal in Shannon Heights Boulevard and Frantz Road. Working with the original developer to prevent Ulster Drive from going through to Tuttle Crossing Boulevard as originally planned. Developing open lines of communication and a working relationship on mutual areas of concern with the Northwest Civic Association, the Monahan Homeowners Association and the Llewellyn Farms Civic Association. The brick wall extending from Tuttle Crossing Boulevard to Hayden Run Road built to preserve the integrity of the neighborhood next to a regional shopping area. Neighborhood friendly restrictions on mall operations with regard to signage, lighting, traffic control and land use. A city-wide referendum on this property prevents these restrictions from being changed without another vote by the people. Original landscaping improvements between the wall and the neighborhood. Annual Halloween Happening. Opened lines of communication with all Columbus city agencies to seek assistance for area improvements. Letters were sent to various city and county officials to make them aware of serious traffic concerns at the Shannon Heights Boulevard/Hayden Run Road intersection and the Camden Place Boulevard intersection to the west. We requested that they look into accident history, speed limits and the feasibility of signal installation. this was done to gain improvements for the Frantz Road/Shannon Heights Boulevard/Hayden Run area. An ongoing, active Neighborhood Blockwatch program with open lines of communication with the police community liaison officer. The addition of another patrol unit; two police cars are patrolling our area on the midwatch patrol. Yield, Stop and No Mall Access signs have been placed throughout our neighborhood. The resumption of a fire and rescue mutual aid agreement between Washington Township and Columbus which extends into our residential neighborhood and end as Hayden Run Road. The addition of the new Columbus Fire Station location off Tuttle Crossing Boulevard and Wilcox Road completed in 2000. Open Lines of communication between locally based mall operators and their out-of-state bosses. Road improvements completed in a timely manner along Frantz Road within five months of the mail opening (as opposed to the lack of road improvements along Sawmill Road many years after retail development). A neighborhood directory. Periodic civic association newsletters. Organized street tree planning throughout the neighborhood. Trees were planted between the streets and sidewalk for a minimum charge. Hired a contractor to landscape the entrance to the subdivision at the corner of Shannon Heights Boulevard and Hayden Run Road.
