Yesterday, the DuBois Rotary Club welcomed guest speaker, Holly Komonczi, the Executive Director of the Lumber Heritage Region (LHR). The LHR is a heritage region that spans across 15 Northwest and North Central PA counties and celebrates the history, culture, and economic impact of the lumber industries.

Holly shared information about LHR’s many youth-focused educational programs. There is an overnight camp planned for the end of the month in Emporium, PA for kids ages 15-17 to encourage them to learn more about PA history. LHR also has community programs such as Forest Bathing to keep community members involved in outdoor recreation, interactive quests and explorations celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary, and a lumber museum at Bark Peelers Festival on July 4th and 5th from 9am-5pm where you can experience what it would have been like to live in a lumber camp.

You can find more information on their website www.lumberheritage.org about their grant program, lesson plans for school students, and more activities and fun events!

The DuBois Rotary Club recently welcomed guest speakers Kara Kennemuth and Joni Goodwill, the Executive Director and Office Manager, respectively, of Women at the Well Ministries of PA, located at 306 Main Street in Corsica. The Women at the Well is faith, love, and truth based. The Well Recovery Home, a vital piece of the Women at the Well Ministries, is a faith-based residential addiction recovery program for women who are 18 years or older that offers residents everything they would need during their recovery such as clothing, toiletries, housing and more. They offer a transformational 4-phase program that takes 12 months to complete.

While some women may feel lost, hopeless, or stagnant in their addiction, the Women at the Well offer support, healing, and guidance to better the women who seek help. Not only do the life coaches and staff help women overcome their past, but they also dig into the root causes of the underlying struggles while guiding the women in the program in a new journey centered towards restoration and hope.

The Well Recovery Home offers a multitude of tools to their women to further advance their recovery. Some of these include safe housing and transportation, recovery education, financial guidance, and job placement assistance.

The Women at the Well also recently opened a thrift store, Well Dressed Thrift Boutique, that offers gently used women’s clothing, accessories, and some household items to the community. Residents of The Women at the Well run the boutique to acquire valuable life and vocational skills. This allows residents to learn, grow, contribute, and feel a renewed sense of purpose.

To learn more about The Women at the Well or the Well Dressed Thrift Boutique, go to www.womenatthewellpa.com or email [email protected].

As we approach Memorial Day Weekend, the DuBois Rotary Club reflects on the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served our country and the importance of continuing to support our veterans long after their service ends.

During a recent visit to the DuBois Rotary Club, Dr. Tyshawn Jenkins joined the club as a guest speaker. During his time in the Air National Guard, Dr. Jenkins was injured and came to realize how important support programs for veterans truly are. Upon joining the Wounded Warrior Project, he was inspired to help others just as he had been helped himself.

At the meeting, Dr. Jenkins spoke on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project, while also sharing information about his scholarship program for at-risk youth and his personal story of overcoming adversity to inspire people of all backgrounds. Through the Wounded Warrior Project, Dr. Jenkins serves fellow veterans as a Peer Support Group leader. In his own words, only veterans can truly understand some veterans’ struggles.

As Memorial Day Weekend reminds us to honor those who gave their lives in service to our nation, it is also a time to recognize organizations and individuals who continue supporting veterans and their families every day.

In celebration of our nation's 250th anniversary, the DuBois Rotary Club was proud to work with the City of DuBois to install a new monument in the City Park. Built to last out of black granite and bronze inlays, the monument commemorates both the U.S anniversary as well as the 2026 merger of Sandy Township and the City of DuBois.

The monument was created and installed by Korb Monuments in DuBois, and is a symbol of unity, heritage, and the community for all the years to come.
