What if every child had the opportunity to grow up surrounded by love, care, protection, and a sense of belonging? At GCA Tanzania, we believe that family-based care is not just an alternative for children without parental care, it is a future worth building for every child.

We are proud to have funded and facilitated Case Management Towards Family-Based Care Training for staff from Kikombo National Children’s Home and Dodoma District Social Welfare Officers, with participation from TAMISEMI and the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups.

Our mission was clear: strengthen the capacity of professionals to implement effective case management practices that uphold the best interests of children and support safe and sustainable family-based care solutions.

Our milestone? All Kikombo National Children’s Home staff reached!

This achievement represents more than a completed training. It is an investment in stronger child protection systems, better-informed decisions, and a future where more children can safely grow up in families and communities where they belong.

But our work cannot stop here. Transforming care requires collective action, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to putting children first.

From the last week of August to the first week of October, we conducted our second Parent Training with around 20 parents. 💛

Parents have started applying what they learned in daily life — from breathing exercises to praising and encouraging their children and practicing positive parenting. 🌿

Some reunions need no words, just one hug.

Look closely at this moment. You can almost feel the joy, relief, and love in that embrace from the besties.

After spending a year in residential care because of difficult family circumstances, 8-year-old Shani was finally reunited with her family in Mwanza.

That hug is more than a greeting. It is a homecoming. A reminder that children don’t simply need a place to stay; they need the love, belonging, protection, and stability that comes from growing up in a safe and caring family.

Today, Shani is back home. But there are still many children waiting for their own moment, the moment they can run into the arms of someone they call family.

GCA Myanmar recently met with one of our church partners for an important training on understanding and healing from trauma. Together, we explored how caregivers can compassionately support those experiencing trauma and mental health struggles. Through hands-on practice, active listening, and questioning strategies, participants gained practical tools to help others feel heard, understood, and cared for. We are so grateful for our church partners in Myanmar!
