Big shout out to Nick Hentschel, MJ Shult, Alex Murillo, and Joe Thomas for joining trail steward Ron Perry out at Reimers Ranch this morning. We managed to get new posts set that will soon help riders navigate their way around this awesome trail system. We also roughed in a new return line to the trailhead and blocked an unsustainable bandit line. All done in less than 3 hours! Ride the trails and go for a swim in the river. It's worth the trip!

Ron has been working with the Park Director and they have a vision to make these trails a true mountain biking destination. Austin Ridge Riders Post-rain impromptu trail work at Powerline Flow 5-berm section at Walnut today.

It’s been a little more than 10 years (if I’m not mistaken) since the first concrete urban trail went in at Walnut.

It crossed the existing natural surface trail in several places, and Austin Ridge Riders worked with the City to secure permission for re-routes. One of the re-routes involved us digging under the bridge (creating head clearance).

The idea of having multiple berms here was to slow down runoff, while also creating something fun to ride. The old line was riding straight down Powerline Hill, so we (Charlie Riou leading) created Powerline Flow that riders would choose to not cross the concrete at a 90 degree angle (T-boning folks).

The berm radii are tight; and in retrospect, they could have been opened up a bit more. However, tighter berms do work if the faces are steeper. Over the next couple months (praying for rain), we’ll be able to get the 5-berm section shaped up again, with some progress made today.

With the recent rain and amazing cool front weather, ARR Trail Crew was back at Mark’s Art at Walnut Creek Metro Park on May 2 to build a new inslope turn (aka berm!). The dirt conditions were ideal, with perfect dampness for shaping and packing—once the summer sets in, there will be fewer opportunities like this.

Walnut Creek Trail Steward, Cullen McMorrow, took advantage of the wet dirt and pulled together a crew to make some massive improvements to the Powerline Flow Berms next to the regional trail. Once this dirt has a chance to settle, this section of trail is going to rip!

This rain has made for some great trail work opportunities and the trails really needed it. Brushy Creek Trail Steward Tommy Kerstetter took advantage of the soft dirt to fix some problem areas on Double Down as well as adding a new berm and tuning up a drop. This trail is rated as advanced so the goal here is to keep the difficult nature of the trail while ensuring erosion is controlled. When it dries up a little, go check it out!

Walnut Creek had a special visitor last week. Mark Henneke, the ‘Mark’ in ‘Marks Art”, spent some time with ARR president Charlie Riou and current Walnut Creek Trail Steward and VP Cullen McMorrow exploring the changes that have taken place in the park since Mark built much of the single track out there that we ride today. There is a LOT of Austin trail building goodness between these three legends. Another Walnut Creek legend, Geoff Hargraves, also made an appearance. Special day!

Shout out to Austin Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Club trail crew volunteers who were able to come out the last two times we got decent rain, to have perfect damp dirt to work with. (There is only a short period of time when dirt is damp enough to shape and pack).

On March 12, we worked on Windy Loop, building two new berms and a log-roller feature.
