The Hill Country Clay Shooters is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization to help the youth in the hill country become involved in organized clay target shooting events. The Hill Country Clay Shooters consist of students from 7th to 12th grade from the surrounding area of Dripping Springs, Lake Travis, Wimberley, Llano, and Austin. They compete in several clay target shooting sports disciplines such as
S***t, Trap, Sporting Clays, and Super Sporting. The athletes compete in four different levels depending on age and experience. They are Intermediate Entry Level, Intermediate Advanced, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Our year-round program engages athletes in various disciplines overseen by the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), in partnership with the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF). The Scholastic Clay Target Program provides student athletes with a supportive environment where shooting sports serve as catalysts for teaching life lessons and skills that emphasize positive character traits and citizenship values. While training with the team and competing at various matches, our shooters will develop life lessons like winning, failing, and problem solving, all while allowing them to become a better team player and eventually a mentor themselves. We prioritize safety, sportsmanship, and respect, ensuring that every athlete feels supported and confident on and off the range. While achieving a high level of marksmanship in each sport is our goal, character development is paramount. Our program consists of two seasons, fall and spring with an enrollment of 30 shooters. The team practices twice a week for 2 to 2 ½ hours and competes regularly within the SCTP team shoots. In addition to the team shoots, many of the shooters also compete in the National Sporting Clay Association (NSCA) shoots around the state, attend private lessons, and have goals of shooting at the collegiate level.
