Foster Village Creating a village of support for children in the Austin area foster system and their caregivers. Recognized 501(c)(3) tax exempt with the IRS

The mission of Foster Village ® is to come alongside families in the foster care system and families at risk of separation and show them that they are not alone. By Equipping caregivers with critical necessities when a child enters their home, Connecting them with ongoing therapeutic support, and Advocating for community engagement beyond the system, we hope to bridge the gaps for our most vulnerable children and families. We know how important connection and stability are, especially during those first (often uncertain and traumatic) days. We also know that there is a community of caring individuals looking for ways to serve these families and children, but are unsure of how to help. It is our hope that we can create practical opportunities for a community that cares to join hands with those in need of support.

Kinship care starts with a yes.

This week a grandmother said yes so her seven grandchildren could stay together.

After her caseworker sent us an urgent request, we talked with Grandma directly and brought seven customized welcome packs to her door right away.

It’s the beginning of a relationship, as our team walks alongside her family and connects them with ongoing support from this community beyond the system.

Grow the Village Gala is THIS WEEKEND, and this year is extra special as we celebrate A Decade of Belonging: 10 Years of Stories from this Community Beyond the System!

This incredible event is our biggest fundraiser of the year, raising critical support and resources for children and caregivers navigating foster care in our community.

October is Sensory Processing Awareness Month, and it's close to our hearts.

Many children experiencing foster care are working hard just to feel safe in a world that can feel loud, bright, and overwhelming. Through Project SOOTHe, we help caregivers better understand what their kiddos need and give them the tools, support, and community to respond with calm and connection.

Trauma-wise, community-strong, and rain-proof: here's a quick peek at some moments from this week at Foster Village. 💛

Some of our staff spent two days at the Trauma Disrupter Coalition conference, soaking up wisdom from some of the top experts in trauma-wise care in child welfare. We can't wait to bring what we learned back to the families we serve!

Following the Family-Based Safety Services unit meeting last week, a new caseworker stopped by our resource center to pick up essential items for one of her families. We love that caseworkers know they can count on this village of support.

Our dedicated volunteers didn't let the rain stop them from showing up for their weekly shifts. Pat, Paula, and Jean joined Sarah, our North Austin Resource Center manager, to sort, organize, and assemble Welcome Packs for families. These ladies are some of the many hands that help ensure our spaces are always ready for whatever family enters next!

Nearly two years into Foster Village, we had no paid staff and a team of volunteers who were ready to lead. A former teacher stepped up to run Project SOOTHe (and KC is now our Community Engagement Coordinator!), and two foster and adoptive moms began guiding Support Gatherings for other caregivers.

Then a group of foster moms in Charlotte asked to bring Foster Village to their city. We weren't ready to expand yet, but they bought the website domain anyway, just in case...

One of the many ways we EQUIP teens navigating foster care happens right inside the Travis County Civil and Family Courts Facility.

In 2024, Judge Martinez-Jones and her colleagues told us the teens on their dockets were requesting the basics, so we opened the Teen Resource Room together. We restock it regularly with donations from this incredible Community Beyond the System™, so teens have what they need right when they need it.

At our last restock at the end of the summer, we ran into Judge Martinez Jones and found new thank you notes waiting for us.
