Foster Village

Foster Village Creating a village of support for children in the Austin area foster system and their caregivers. Recognized 501(c)(3) tax exempt with the IRS

The mission of Foster Village ® is to come alongside families in the foster care system and families at risk of separation and show them that they are not alone. By Equipping caregivers with critical necessities when a child enters their home, Connecting them with ongoing therapeutic support, and Advocating for community engagement beyond the system, we hope to bridge the gaps for our most vulnera

ble children and families. We know how important connection and stability are, especially during those first (often uncertain and traumatic) days. We also know that there is a community of caring individuals looking for ways to serve these families and children, but are unsure of how to help. It is our hope that we can create practical opportunities for a community that cares to join hands with those in need of support.

On the agenda this week: capturing some incredible stories for our Grow the Village Gala.✨

This October, we’re gathering for an incredible evening together, celebrating our 10th anniversary!

We’re looking forward to featuring stories that capture what A Decade of Belonging truly means for families navigating foster care, and we can’t wait to watch this village grow!

We have one week to go in our lemonade stand campaign and the photos rolling in just keep getting sweeter as this village of support grows.

Kids are friend-raising. Families are getting creative. The Brown family spent the day serving alongside their girls Bible study crew — and if that name sounds familiar, it’s because this is the same family behind Bougie's Donuts & Coffee, one of our generous business partners all campaign long.

At each of these stands, kids explained what Foster Village does to anyone who walked up. Neighbors gathered, poured lemonade, and learned something new about the children and families in their own community.

And these are just a few of the many stands! To every family who has set up a stand this month, thank you! Families navigating foster care have stronger support because of you.

There’s still one week left to be part of the fun! If you’re looking for an easy on-ramp, check out our business partners this month including Mazama Coffee Company, giving back all proceeds from their lemon cookie, and giving back on every lemonade slushy.

What began as a single emergency placement and a simple group text a decade ago has blossomed into a nationwide movement across 13 affiliate locations!

This week, 28 incredible Foster Village leaders journeyed over 34,000 collective miles to come together as this village of villages continues to grow!

And it all started 10 years ago.

A passionate foster mama was aiming to transform the foster care experience for children and families. The first few joined the mission, and now the movement has multiplied serving more than 30,000 children and their caregivers nationwide.

Every day, we’re reminded that when community shows up, isolation ends, so that no child or family walks alone.

Chrystal Smith, founder and CEO of Foster Village, recently sat down with Rachel El Shamy on the Laugh On & Levitate podcast to share the heart behind what we do.

They talked about the healing power of play, why meeting children in their world might be the most important thing we can do, and what it looks like when a whole community wraps its arms around a child. Chrystal also shared the story behind Foster Village — the resource centers that feel like homes, the wishing tree, and the eight-year-old who became our unofficial ambassador.

We hope you'll give it a listen.

Growing the Village is Sweet is about raising funds and awareness for children and families experiencing foster care, and we love the buzz that's building this month!

Families have been setting up lemonade stands in their neighborhoods. Churches have been hosting group stands together.

Businesses have been giving back, from the Kendra Scott event last week to Jet's Pizza, Bougie's Donuts, MorninGlory, and more showing up all month long.

This Thursday, from noon to 3pm, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams joins in for a one-day giveback.🍦

And when our Volunteer Coordinator, Sam, visited VBS at One Chapel recently, the kids said it best. A first grader immediately wanted to host their own lemonade stand. A fifth grader pledged their annual ice cream stand earnings to Foster Village. A second grader declared that "a village is like a family". And an adult leader shared with Sam on the way out: "I didn't know y'all existed. My grandma just had my cousins placed with her and has been navigating all of that."

That is exactly what this campaign is all about. June is not over, and there's still a spot for you to get involved. Host a stand, visit a business, or share what we are doing with someone who might not be part of this growing village of support for kids and families navigating foster care. All campaign details in our bio!

For children who’ve experienced trauma, sensory processing challenges are far more common than most people realize, and far too isolating to navigate without support.

Project SOOTHe is Foster Village’s sensory processing support program for families experiencing foster care — bringing together sensory tools, therapeutic resources, personalized coaching, and a community that genuinely gets it.

Play is one of our top priorities at Foster Village for so many reasons. Play disarms fear. Play helps kids grow. Play builds connection. And it’s FUN!

This is just one of the many fun-filled moments at our weekly Open Play in Dripping Springs. 🤸🏿‍♂️

Not pictured: plenty of snacks, our indoor sensory play equipment to beat the summer heat, and the village of support that makes it happen. 💛

When people think about foster care, they often imagine the moment a child enters a new home.

But long before that moment, there are families working every day to stay together.

Many mothers navigating recovery through Family Based Safety Services (FBSS) and family drug court are doing the hardest work of their lives. They are rebuilding stability, working through trauma, and learning how to parent while navigating recovery.

And they are doing it while caring for their children.
