💥 Boom! Last volunteer trail day of the season in the books. We had over 25 people show up to finish the last half mile of phase 4 of the North Side Trail! Thank you SO much to everyone who came out yesterday, and all season long, to help complete this project. The North Side Trail has been many years in the making and this final phase, which is 1.44 miles long and runs from Reunion Flats to the Horse Transfer parking area is officially walkable/rideable. Go check it out! 🍂

Things are happening in Teton Canyon!

🚧Trail Improvements Underway in Teton Canyon🚧

Visitors to Teton Canyon, east of Alta, Wyoming, may see construction activity throughout October as part of the Teton Canyon Trail Connectivity Improvements Project, funded through the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA).

Contractors will install two new 80‑foot pedestrian bridges across Teton Creek:

• Treasure Lake Bridge (Oct. 8–16)
This brand‑new bridge will connect the new parking area to the Treasure Lake Day Use Area. No trail closures are expected, but there may be short road delays of less than 30 minutes while crews move equipment and transport prefabricated bridge parts.

• Sheep Bridge Trail Bridge (Oct. 19–30)
This bridge will replace the existing structure in the same location. Sheep Bridge Trail #130 will be closed during the construction period for public safety.

Both work sites will be well signed and active construction zones with heavy equipment operating nearby. Please use caution and follow posted directions when recreating in the area.

For those of you who don’t know, we had the privilege and honor of surprising and celebrating our Program Director extraordinaire, Nick Beatty, at the Trails Throwdown last weekend. He has worked at TVTAP for 20! years now so we couldn’t let this year pass without letting him know how much we appreciate all he’s done for us, for TVTAP, for trails in the valley, and for the people in our community. He’s a rockstar, a unicorn, a free-heeler, welder, hunter, dad, husband, dog person, consummate problem solver, a thoughtful friend, and so so much more. Thanks to those who gave speeches, recorded videos, planned, sent photos, and helped keep the surprise in tact. He doesn’t have social media so if you see him around town or out on the trails, please give him a hearty congratulations and high five! If you missed the celebration, swing by the office for a limited edition Nick-themed koozie!

Today some of our Wilderness Stewards acquired some new skills! We were out with our partners from the US Forest Service learning how to make footbridges using only wilderness tools like crosscuts, axes, and hammers. This new foot bridge joins the rest of the work we’ve been doing in South Leigh and will enable us to continue to do this sort of work beyond the wilderness boundary. Huge thanks to our volunteers (and zebra dog mascot, Lucy) for being willing and excited to learn new skills!

PSA regarding the Mike Harris Trails... U.S. Forest Service - Caribou-Targhee National Forest will begin burning piles from past fuels reduction cutting. There will NOT be trail closures but there will be periods where smoke may be present.
