Please meet a new Board Member, Betsy Hermann. Betsy first visited Teton Valley as a 10-year-old from Atlanta, GA, on a family road trip, station wagon and pop-up camper in tow. She knew from that point that the Tetons were amazing and the Rockies were where she wanted to be when she grew up. With a B.A. in Biology and an M.A. in Geography, she enjoyed a career in natural resource management with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Forest Service, most recently in Utah and Montana. In 2022, she and her husband Dan started building their home in Tetonia, moving here in 2023. She enjoys all things outdoors, particularly hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and trying to dabble in bikepacking.

We are pleased to announce that we have hired Justin Petty as Friends of the Teton River's new Executive Director.

Justin is passionate about the Teton River watershed and the people and communities who depend on it. He showed up on day one ready to listen, learn, and start building connections with the neighbors, leaders, and partners who make this valley what it is.

He comes to us with deep roots in Idaho conservation, spending over two decades doing landscape-scale work with The Nature Conservancy of Idaho and he'll be the first to tell you that the best conservation happens when community is at the center.

In his own words: "It's a privilege to work with FTR's devoted staff and Board, and the local community to ensure a thriving future for the Teton River watershed."

We hope you'll join us in welcoming Justin to the team and to Teton Valley. Keep an eye out for him at our upcoming events (like the State of the Fishery on 4/30 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Highpoint Cider). He's looking forward to meeting you!

FTR Programs Director Will Stubblefield brought the farms and fish of Idaho to Washington, DC in March. Our work here in Teton Valley has an impact on programs and funding nationwide.

The goal of the trip was the share the success of Friends of the Teton River's recently completed ~5M irrigation infrastructure project on the Canyon Creek Tributary of the Teton River Canyon. This project has seasonally restored up to 70cfs of streamflow to Canyon Creek by replacing an aging canal with new pumping stations on the main stem Teton River. The result is new irrigation infrastructure to carry farmers onto the next generation of operations and improved stream flow to improve fish passage in Canyon Creek.

In meetings with members of Congress, congressional staff, and agency partners, Will shared data showing healthy Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout populations in the Teton River Canyon, along with plans for a second phase of work to secure minimum instream flow agreements with irrigators. Critical federal investments—such as Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART programs—make it possible to deliver on-the-ground projects that strengthen water supply for farmers while benefiting fish and wildlife, which Will made a priority topic.
