📢 LIHEAP UPDATE📢

This morning we were notified by THDA (Tennessee Housing Development Agency) that even though open enrollment has began for the LIHEAP program, all clients will be placed on a “waitlist”, this includes regular applicants and “crisis” applications. This will also effect the ability to prevent a disconnect notice.

Please be advised, our agency can accept regular and “crisis” applications and be placed on a “waitlist” but benefit payments CAN NOT be processed.

Don't forget, Thursday, October 1, 2026 is the start of the new LIHEAP Open Enrollment. If you would like to set up an appointment for a one-on-one appointment then call your local office, however, if you would like to skip the wait you can always apply yourself 24/7, no waiting using the SmartSimple Portal through the THDA (Tennessee Housing Development Agency). Head Start parents and caregivers know firsthand what makes this program work for children and families.

Right now, the federal government is considering changes to the Head Start Program Performance Standards through a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM). An NPRM is part of the federal rulemaking process and gives the public an opportunity to weigh in before proposed changes become final.

These changes could affect health and other essential services, staff-to-child ratios, disability supports, eligibility, how children build English proficiency and opportunities for parents to lead.

To prepare for the LIHEAP New Fiscal Year beginning October 1, 2026 (for 2026-2027), we will no longer be accepting applications ONLINE or by APPOINTMENT after September 15, 2026 for the CURRENT Fiscal Year of 2025-2026.

Beginning October 1, 2026 we will be accepting new applications ONLINE or by APPOINTMENT for the FISCAL YEAR 2026-2027.
