Want to help our community but not sure what you could do? EMA needs volunteers and we can work with you! No contracts, no physicals, be as involved as you want. If you try it out and decide it's not for you, no questions asked!

What we need volunteers for:
Damage Assessment Team: After a storm we send out Damage Assessment Teams to the affected area to determine the extent of damage done to homes. Usually each vehicle works in teams of two to four people. You drive up to a home, take a picture of the damage, assign a damage rating to it, and move on to the next home. This is often called a "windshield survey" and serves as an initial assessment of the impact a storm has had on our community and is the backbone of deciding what disaster relief we may be eligible for. Training requirements are annual and take about 30 minutes.

Shelter Team: We set up shelters for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's a storm shelter at the courthouse for people to stay safe during potential tornado weather. Sometimes it's sheltering for people who have been displaced by a storm, and many more. Shelters can run anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. We may have to set up cots or chairs, check people in, and clean up when we're done. Training requirements are largely on-the-job and gained through experience.

Tracking Team: The Weakley County Tracking Team is a group of highly motivated, highly trained visual trackers that specialize in finding lost people by analyzing the tracks and traces left behind by the individual. This team is the exception as it takes consistent training that can range from monthly meetings that last about two hours, to week long training sessions. If you're interested in something more hard core, this one is for you!
