Heritage Conservancy

Heritage Conservancy Land • History • Community
We’re a PA nonprofit that preserves & protects natural/historic heritage.

Based in Doylestown, PA, Heritage Conservancy is committed to being the region’s premier, nationally-accredited conservator. We are a community-based organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of significant open spaces, natural resources, and our historic heritage. A champion of conservation best practices, Heritage Conservancy believes that everyone is responsible for stewardship

and seeks to enlighten, engage, and empower others to help achieve this mutual vision. Heritage Conservany's headquarters, Aldie Mansion, began its history as a beloved private residence for William and Martha Mercer. This stately 1927 mansion evokes a time in America when craftsmanship reached an art form. These days, the mansion can be rented for weddings, meetings and events.

Happy World Turtle Day! 🐢
Our region is home to some truly remarkable turtle species, and our conservation biologist Sebastian Harris has spent a lot of time getting to know them up close on our preserves. Here are six of our favorites.

Pennsylvania's natural areas are disappearing faster than most people realize, and turtles, which are slow to mature and deeply tied to specific habitats, don't bounce back easily from those losses. Supporting local land trusts and conservation organizations is one of the most direct ways to help.

In the meantime, get outside and explore. You might just cross paths with one of them!

Great news for Bucks County students! Heritage Conservancy has been awarded a $30,000 grant through Pennsylvania's Environmental Education Grants Program to expand inclusive environmental literacy in our local schools.

Working alongside the Bucks County Intermediate Unit, Bristol Township School District, and Silver Lake Nature Center, we'll be bringing hands-on nature and water education to K-5 students in environmental justice communities, including adapted lessons for diverse learners and professional development for educators.

This funding is part of a $1 million+ investment by the Shapiro Administration in 46 environmental education projects across Pennsylvania. More than 75% of those projects serve environmental justice communities, because access to nature shouldn't depend on your zip code.

We're proud to be part of this statewide effort to connect kids to the land and water around them.

Big thanks to our arborist, Ethan Transue, of Transue Tree Service, who went above and beyond last week - literally. 🦇

After taking down two large hazard trees at our Russell Mandel Preserve, Ethan used his lift to help install 6 bat boxes high up on the exterior of our barn. We've been hoping to get these up for quite a while, and his help made it happen.

Bats play an essential role in controlling insect pests like mosquitoes, pollinating plants, and dispersing seeds, making them a key part of a healthy, balanced ecosystem.

Unfortunately, bat populations are declining across the globe due to habitat disruption and white-nose syndrome, a fungal disease that has devastated colonies throughout North America. These boxes give local bats a safe place to roost and raise their young.
