Big things are brewing for our 5th-grade Arrow of Light (AOL) Scouts as they kicked off their capstone year in Cub Scouting! 🏹✨

This year marks an exciting turning point for our AOLs. Instead of just meeting as a traditional den, they are officially operating under the Patrol Method—stepping into youth leadership and preparing for their upcoming crossover into Scouts BSA.

At their recent planning session, the Scouts took full charge:

🗺️ Mapping out the year: Brainstorming the adventures, outdoor outings, and skills they want to tackle before graduation.

🗳️ Choosing a Patrol Name & Identity: Collaborating (and having plenty of lively debate!) to select their official patrol name, design their patrol flag, and establish their own Code of Conduct.

🤝 Stepping into leadership: Setting the stage for rotating patrol leadership roles where the youth lead the way.

Watching these Scouts grow from wide-eyed younger cubs into confident leaders ready to navigate their own path is what Scouting is all about.

Stepping back onto the grounds of Camp Hart at Musser Scout Reservation this weekend brought things completely full circle for me.

Exactly 20 years ago, my very last event as a youth in Scouting took place right at Camp Hart. Walking those same trails after two decades was both wonderful and deeply emotional—returning to the place where my youth Scouting journey came to a close, but now with a whole new purpose. Stepping into the role of Cubmaster has given me the chance to rekindle that fire and help build the same lifelong memories for our kids.

Part of that journey meant completing BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) this weekend. For those unfamiliar, BALOO is the required training that certifies adult leaders to take our Cub Scouts on overnight campouts. It covers everything from outdoor ethics and camp cooking to site safety, first aid, and planning engaging campfire programs. It’s just one of the many trainings we as leaders take behind the scenes to ensure our Scouts get safe, high-quality, unforgettable outdoor adventures.

Beyond the skills learned, one of the best parts of the weekend was the fellowship. It was great networking with fellow Cubmasters and leaders, especially swapping stories and ideas with Cub Pack 97 out of Bryn Athyn, and Cub Scout Pack 200 Ivyland, PA. I am truly looking forward to collaborating with both of your packs in the near future!

Here’s to the next chapter of Scouting adventures ahead. ⚜️🏕️

🚀 Taking flight with the Sky Pirates Radio Controlled Aircraft Club!

A massive thank you to all the amazing pilots and volunteers at Sky Pirates for welcoming Pack 169 out to the field and sharing their passion for aviation and STEM. Our Scouts, siblings, and families had an absolute blast from start to finish!

Here’s a look at everything we packed into an incredible day:

🚀 Rocket Building & Launches: Crafting our own rockets and watching them blast high into the sky!

🛩️ Glider Flights: Assembling gliders and testing out flight angles and throws across the open field.

🛠️ Model Aviation Science: Learning how RC aircraft are designed, built, and controlled in the air.

✈️ Aerobatic Demonstrations: Seeing stunning flight routines and model aircraft maneuvers up close.

🛸 Drone Tech & FPV: Exploring modern drone controls and catching high-speed flight through live FPV (First Person View) goggles!

It was a truly wonderful day of hands-on learning, big smiles, and unforgettable memories.
