Shalom everyone, I wanted to wish everyone a beautiful Spring and joyful and kosher Pessach! I also have a great news, Shalem Farm is moving North in Vermont. The land in Doylestown is still under regenerative practices, with an organic farmer cultivating thousands of garlics currently. I think Shalem Farm will kind of become Shalem Homestead! I will share more information after the Spring!

Eating locally-grown food is good for our only planet. Every pound of food that you grow, or buy from local growers, offsets up to two pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.

Growing some of your food is good for your family:
- Fresh produce is more nutritious
- You have control of food from seed to table.
- You might save money especially because of higher prices in grocery stores.
- Growing food is an educational and meaningful project for the whole family.

Virtual Tu B’Shvat Seder Monday 17 (MLK day) 12pm,
& fruit trees Fundraising campaign
Join us for a virtual seder on Zoom
The Tu B'Shvat seder is a kabbalistic ritual that includes blessing and tasting various fruits and wine in order to to celebrate the new year of the trees (in Israel this is the exact time when tree sap starts flowing again). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tu_BiShvat
Traditionally, trees are planted on Tu B’Shvat in Israel but this year during the shemita (shabbat of the holy land) it is not permitted.
Tu B’Shvat provides us with a unique opportunity to plant trees here in PA. Obviously the winter doesn’t allow us to plant yet, but Shalem Farm is launching a fundraising campaign to buy fruit trees. A single tree (6’ to 8’ tall) costs around $50 dollars, organic soil with mulch + fence would be an extra $10. In the Torah, we are reminded that it is forbidden to cut down a tree during times of war (Deut. 20:19). The Rabbis explain it is because trees sustain us, offering their fruits and their oxygen. Since trees have the ability to give and sustain life, the rabbis see Torah through the metaphor of “the Tree of Life.” Please help us sustain life by giving today https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8Gc1lWIJIR
