☕🧥 COCOA & COATS — Warm Hearts, Warm Neighbors! ❤️

What if a simple cup of hot cocoa could help keep someone warm this winter?

The Community Coat Closet is inviting YOU to host a neighborhood Cocoa & Coats Drive!

It’s a fun, easy way to bring neighbors together while making a difference in our community!

🏡 Here’s how it works:

☕ Set up a hot cocoa station in your driveway, cul-de-sac, or neighborhood gathering spot.

🧥 Invite your neighbors to stop by with new or gently used coats to donate.

❤️ Enjoy some cocoa, connect with your neighbors, and help spread warmth to individuals and families in need!

Whether you collect 5 coats or 50, every single donation makes a difference!

We provide the cause. You provide the cocoa. Together, we provide the warmth! ❤️

📧 Want to host a Cocoa & Coats Drive in your neighborhood?

Email us at [email protected] for information, creative ideas, and helpful suggestions on how to organize your own drive. We’re happy to help you get started!

Let’s turn neighborhood gatherings into something that truly makes a difference, one cup of cocoa and one warm coat at a time! ☕❤️🧥

Our first coat orders of the season have officially gone out to several schools in our community. ❤️🧥

There is something about those first cold mornings that makes it all feel very real. Most of us can simply grab a coat on the way out the door, but for some children heading to school — and for adults in our community trying to get to work, appointments, or simply make it through the day — having a warm coat is not always a given.

That is exactly why the Community Coat Closet is here.

We are completely volunteer-run, and everything we do is made possible through donations. Every coat on our racks was given by someone in the community. Every order is sorted and packed by volunteers who give their time because they care.

And every coat that leaves our closet is going to a real person who needs it.

As the mornings get colder, we know the requests will continue to come in. Our hope is that when a child, a family, or an adult in our community needs a warm coat this winter, we can be there to help.

We truly could not do this without the people who donate coats, give financially, volunteer their time, and share our mission with others.

Thank you for helping us keep our community warm — one coat at a time. ❤️

What an awesome crew! 🙌🧥📦

A HUGE thank you to the youth from Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church for jumping in and helping us set up our second Community Coat Closet location — our order-packing space!

They brought the energy, teamwork, and helping hands we needed to get everything organized and ready for the winter season ahead. We loved having this group serve alongside us and help make a difference for families in our community. 💙

Thank you for showing us what community in action looks like!

A huge THANK YOU to the wonderful volunteers from Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church for spending time with us at the Community Coat Closet in Winston-Salem! ❤️🧥

Your helping hands made such a difference as we worked to organize all of the generous coat donations and prepare the closet for the upcoming winter season.

We are so grateful for your time, energy, and willingness to serve our community. Because of volunteers like you, we’ll be ready to help keep our neighbors warm this winter. 💙

Thank you, Oak Ridge Presbyterian, for being such an important part of our mission!

🧥❤️ A WARM COAT CAN CHANGE SOMEONE’S WINTER ❤️🧥

As colder weather approaches, we’re filling the Community Coat Closet with warm, gently used or new coats for children, families, and neighbors experiencing homelessness who may be facing cold nights without a safe, warm place to stay.

We especially need:
✨ Children’s coats
✨ Adult L, XL, XXL & 3XL

New or like-new coats, please.

Larger sizes are especially important because many of our unhoused neighbors layer clothing to protect themselves from the cold. Your donation can help someone stay warmer, feel safer, and know that their community cares.

👇 Shop our Amazon Wish List using the link in our bio/story.

Every coat makes a difference—and one warm coat can bring comfort, dignity, and hope to someone who needs it most. ❤️

As the colder months approach, the Community Coat Closet in Winston-Salem is hoping our community can help us make sure more of our neighbors have something warm to wear. ❤️

We are especially in need of children’s coats as well as adult coats in sizes L, XL, XXL, and 3XL.

For our unhoused neighbors, larger coats are especially helpful because they often need to layer clothing underneath to stay warm during cold days and nights.

If you have a like new or new coat that you’re able to donate, it could make such a meaningful difference for someone this winter. A coat may seem like a simple thing, but to someone facing the cold without one, it can mean warmth, comfort, and knowing that someone in their community cares.

Thank you for helping us take care of our neighbors. ❤️🧥 Donations can be dropped off in the wooden bin outside Sherwood UMC 5250 Silas Creek parkway, or inside at the lobby of the sheriff’s office 301 N Church Street, there is a bin for the coat closet.
If you can’t drop off, we can arrange to pick up as well.
Just send us a private message or comment on here!

How it started… In 2019, while working with another non profit, I was told about some kids at North Hills Elementary who needed coats. I was able to enlist the help of the community and we gathered 300 coats within a few days. It opened my eyes to a need in our community that felt like a basic human right. How could I go on knowing kids in our community were cold? It seemed so easy to fix. Then I realized there were just as many, if not more, adults in our community that were in need of winter wear. I just felt called to find a solution.
Through connections I had made through volunteer service, I found the right people to help me start the Community Coat Closet in 2021. With SPARK graciously providing us with fiscal sponsorship and mentorship, we have grown to 3 closet spaces throughout the community, countless partnerships and last winter season we provided 2500 to vulnerable members of the community.
It is my pride and passion to share this mission with others. We value our volunteers time and always encourage them to find the piece of the puzzle they feel called to serve. It only takes a SPARK and the light of love in our community will continue to spread! Julie☺️
