Imagination Station Toledo is fusing fashion and science during our favorite runway show: Elements of Style: Glass City Chic - presented by Comfort Line FiberFrame.

A nod to the International Year of Glass, local STEAM professionals will wear fabulous, glass-inspired looks highlighting the incredible versatility and jaw-dropping beauty of glass on Monday, November 14. The audience will also be wowed by outfits from local designers and boutiques while supporting the important work of the science center.

Call for Contributions to the new Glass Public Art Installation “Field of Histories”

Metroparks Toledo and The Arts Commission will host an event Sunday, October 30 from noon to 4 p.m. at Glass City Metropark where the public can participate in “Field of Histories” by bringing glass objects or objects related to the history of glass to be photographed for possible inclusion in the finished work of art.

Field of Histories, created by artist Byrony Roberts, will consist of 175 glass orbs on posts, in which significant objects provided from the community will be scanned and laser engraved inside. The project will also link to an online catalog of audio and/or written recordings of personal histories gathered at the workshops.

Community members are invited to bring up to two objects that have personal significance and that represent part of the history of Toledo – objects that express a unique story about the history of the Glass City, or capture some of the cultural experiences of a neighborhood. These could be objects from the industrial history of glass manufacturing or a decorative object particular to a family or cultural community, or a homemade object. Of particular interest are objects that represent stories about Toledo that haven’t been told yet, and that help this project reflect the full breadth of experiences in the Glass City.

“Field of Histories” will offer a destination for exploring the past, present, and future of glass in Toledo through an immersive public art piece that is integrated into the landscape.

Glass Recycling & Sustainability in

Glass is a sustainable material that provides great environmental benefits due to its recyclability, material properties, and diverse applicability.

One of the most sustainable benefits of glass is its endless life cycle. With over 27 million metric tons of glass recycled annually, glass can be reused an infinite number of times. This means that each glass item you come in contact with was created from not only raw materials like sand and soda ash, but also existing glass pieces made before it. Recycled glass is used in manufacturing to help lower melting temperature of batch materials and reduce the amount of energy consumed during the process. This, in turn, helps reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from the manufacturing process.

With the possibility to recycle glass endlessly without loss in quality or purity, there’s a reason glass is included in the top three most recycled household materials.

Today was the first ever Clearly Hidden Glass Art Scavenger Hunt! Guests hunted all around Promenade Park in downtown Toledo searching for these unique, locally made Glass Ornaments!

A huge thanks to the artists that contributed work to this scavenger hunt: Leonard Marty, Firenation, Gathered Glass, and Shawn Messenger.
