Happy Juneteenth! ❤️🖤💚 Today we celebrate freedom and commemorate a defining milestone in the end of slavery in the United States: June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received news of emancipation. We honor the generations of Black Americans whose courage, resistance, perseverance, and hope have moved our nation closer to its ideals.
Erica Hall, National Sierra Club Board Member and local community advocate, often reminds us that “environmental justice is the root of all justice.” We strive to ensure that principle is woven throughout all of our work—from clean energy and conservation to community engagement, food justice, and climate resilience.
Today, we encourage you to celebrate, reflect, and get involved in local justice work—from food sovereignty and youth programs to climate resilience and community-led advocacy—as we lift up the Black farmers, justice leaders, and grassroots organizers working to build communities where everyone can live, work, and thrive with dignity.
