🥷♟️ “My child won’t sit still. Can they learn chess?”
Yes! Learning chess can start on their feet. At Checkmate Ninja, a giant floorboard turns a lesson into a playful adventure! 👣
Here’s what that can look like:
⬛⬜ Explore the board: Walk onto a light square, then find a dark square. Can you spot the pattern?
🏰 Move like a rook: Walk in a straight line along a row of squares. Stop when Coach says, “Freeze!”
👑 Become the king: Take one careful step to a neighboring square. Which direction will you choose?
🤝 Take turns: One little ninja moves while the others watch, then everyone switches roles.
♟️ Try it small: Bring the adventure to a tabletop board for a short activity—help a rook reach its destination!
We start with movement, keep directions simple, and build toward brief moments of seated play at each child’s pace. Some children may spend the lesson exploring just one piece—and that’s a meaningful start.
Your child doesn’t need to sit through a full chess game to begin discovering chess. 💛
