A little rain couldn't stop this crew of mentees and mentors from completing a 5k in downtown Jacksonville today. It was reassuring to know mentor and Jacksonville firefighter Lamarr was on the route making sure everyone stayed safe.

We love to see our mentees and mentors having these shared experiences building bonds that will last a lifetime.

Building something meaningful takes more than effort, it takes people who step in at the right time.

At the Big Game Celebration-Awards Day, we recognized two types of impact:
▪️The people who believed early to help it begin - J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver, recipients of the Game Changer Award.
▪️And the community partner who helped create the environment for it to continue- VyStar Credit Union, recipient of the Special Teams Award.

Thank you to Kemal Gasper, VP of Community Engagement and Kevin Brown, Senior School Program Advisor for receiving the award on behalf of VyStar Credit Union. And Mark LeMaire, Vice President, Strategic Donor Initiatives at the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida for receiving the Game Changer award on behalf of the Weavers.

Every strong team has people who hold it together.

This year, we celebrated our Volunteer of the Year (Unsung Hero) and Mentor of the Year (Coach of the Year)- Mrs Janice Davis and Mr Ken Stout. These two individuals have invested their time, energy, and care into the lives of our boys.

Their commitment reflects what LPFLA is built on:
presence, consistency, and belief in potential.

We’re grateful for leaders who serve in different ways, but toward the same goal. Congrats to these two well deserving leaders!

Today is a first for our organization!

For the first time, we are celebrating mentees who entered LPFLA years ago and are now graduating high school.

Xavier and Jaqari have been part of our program for five formative years, allowing us to walk alongside them through growth, challenges, and milestones.

This moment affirms our mission and reminds us how important the support LPFLA provides especially when consistency, community, and belief are present over time.

This is the beginning of building a boy, who builds a family, which ultimately builds our community.

Summer is almost here, but expanding our boys’ horizons never stops.

At our Saturday Huddle, they set goals for the upcoming school year, sharpened their budgeting skills, and polished their résumés.
