The Haynsworth family understands just how fragile life is after the death of their son, Clement. Because Clement loved children and had a kind and giving spirit, they have chosen to remember him by reaching out to children whose lives are the most fragile--those who are fighting the battle with cancer and other serious blood disorders. Clement's Kindness Fund for the Children was established at t
he Community Foundation of Greenville to help address the medical, psychological, social, emotional, and financial needs of Upstate families impacted by pediatric cancer and other serious blood disorders. The fund provides assistance to families facing the tremendous challenges surrounding a child's diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Unfortunately, when a family is faced with a life-threatening illness, they are also faced with other serious problems as well. Often a parent has to quit work to support the treatment of a child. The family's bills go up while their income goes down. There simply are not enough community services or programs to provide for every need. Clement's Kindness is a much needed resource for these families who have nowhere else to turn. The staff at the Bi-Lo Charities Children's Cancer Center (at the Greenville Hospital System) can use the Clement's Kindness Fund to provide discretionary funds for non-medical needs, including mortgage payments, car payments, utility bills, car repairs, and more Clement's Kindness helps with travel expenses and living expenses for families of children who must travel out of town to receive treatment and out-of-pocket costs such as gas, meals, and phone calls. Clement's Kindness also helps by providing special fun-filled events for these children and their families, where the children are able to spend quality time with their siblings and other family members in a non-stressful environment (e.g., Carowinds; college football scrimmages, etc.)
