Join us on March 27th at Story Parlor where Marsha will be a featured reader! Marsha Almodovar is a mixed-media painter and Writer. whose work passionately explores themes like social justice, bodily autonomy, healing generational trauma, and embodiment. Her expressive style draws on bright colors, emotion, natural elements, and personal narrative—she often centers her art around reclaiming the narrative of the body and challenging conventional portrayals of nudity and femininity. Marsha also has written, illustrated and published a bilingual children's book called " Mucho Mucho"

Coming up on Friday March 27th! Tickets here. https://storyparloravl.com/calendar/juniper-bends-spring26-vol1 Barbara Roether is the publisher at Wet Cement Press and sometimes teaches at the Great Smokies Writing program. She is currently writing about Buddhist education for Tricycle Magazine. Her second novel Free Girls is coming out later in 2026. Her first novel This Earth You’ll Come Back To (McPherson & Co. 2015) was winner of an Independent Press Award, and the IndieFab Book of the year. Additional work includes two poetry collections Saraswati’s Lament and The Middle Atlas, as well as essays and reviews in Lost Magazine, Rain Taxi, Blaze Vox, the Kyoto Journal and elsewhere. Her essay 'Strangers in the Same Land' was chosen as the 2026 third-place winner in the Rose Post contest with North Carolina Writers Network.

Thomas Calder is the author of The Wind Under the Door and the forthcoming novel, The Crave (Regal House Publishing, 2028). He earned his MFA in creative writing from the University of Houston. His work has appeared in Juked, Gulf Coast, West Branch, and elsewhere. He is also a regular contributor to storySouth. His short fiction was a semifinalist for the 2025 Doris Betts Fiction Prize and his forthcoming novel, The Crave, was a finalist for the 2025 Santa Fe Writers Project Literary Award. Along with writing fiction, he is the managing editor of Mountain Xpress, an alt-weekly in Asheville, and the co-host of DRAFT: Artistry in Conversation with fellow author Tessa Fontaine. He lives in Asheville, North Carolina with his wife and daughter. Thomas Calder

This month features: RK Fauth, Lindsey Pharr, Brinn Langdale, and Alli Marshall, with musician M A R. Books will be available for purchase, and the authors will sign them.

Meet Juniper Bends reader Brinn Langdale.

At 22, Brinn Langdale began confronting her own childhood trauma, setting her on a lifelong journey of healing and forgiveness. Today, she runs a thriving private practice as a licensed psychotherapist, speaker and author. Brinn’s core message, that everything you do makes perfect sense and that healing is possible, resonates with a wide range of audiences, including students, professionals, survivors, and anyone seeking personal growth and self-improvement.

Meet Juniper Bends reader .

Lindsey is a fifth generation Mississippian who has made Asheville her home since 2009. She received her MFA in creative nonfiction from the Naslund-Mann School of Writing at Spalding University in Louisville, KY. Her award-winning essays have appeared in Appalachian Review, Brevity, SmokeLong Quarterly, and elsewhere.

Meet Mar Music, our special guest musician for our December 5 event at Parlor .

Hailing originally from Peru, US based, M A R is a Latinx singer, songwriter, and producer who fuses folk elements through bilingual lyrics and Latin grooves over indie-flavored acoustic guitars. Recipient of the 2022 LGTBQ+ Emerging Artist Award, and founder of Óyelo Music Productions, M A R truly enjoys collaborating with like-minded creatives. That same year, M A R debuted an original and autobiographical piece in the iconic A Swannanoa Solstice at the Wortham Theater in Asheville, NC in junction with American-Peruvian artist Gina Cornejo, and returned as a guest artist on December 2024. You can catch M A R solo at a show, or with his band M A R & The Marmeladies, or his recently formed Cumbia band Las Montañitas.
