As promised, we have more updates from our incredible youth volunteers and mental health advocates! This update comes from Emma in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania! Many thanks to Emma, Emery, and the students who helped raise $500 for mental health awareness. We look forward to a continued collaboration in the fall. And a special shout out to the school administrators for prioritizing teen mental health!

From Emma: “This past May, Canon-McMillan Middle School’s Student Government held a fundraiser in partnership with Let’s Bake the World a Better Place. As Student Government President, Emma W. helped organize and lead a “Pie in the Face” event to raise money and awareness for mental health initiatives. Students were able to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to pie a teacher or Student Government officer, and it was amazing to see so many people come together to support such an important cause. With the help of Vice President Emery A., Student Government advisors Ms. Bardella and Mrs. Dennick, Sophie from Let’s Bake the World a Better Place, and the many students who participated, the fundraiser was a tremendous success, raising $500 to support mental health awareness. Sophie also generously donated mental health care package kits that Student Government members will assemble next school year! These kits will be available in guidance offices throughout the district for students who may benefit from them. This fundraiser demonstrated the power of our school community coming together to make a positive impact. We can’t thank all the Canon McMillan students who participated in this fundraiser enough, and we were so glad to partner with an organization that does such admirable work!”

During National Mental Health Awareness Month we are highlighting the work done by our amazing volunteers! Joey, a student at Church Farm School in Exton, recently participated in his school’s Wellness Day. Joey spoke to his peers about Let’s Bake the World a Better Place and shared our mission of teens supporting each other’s mental health. He also distributed the mental health care packages that he assembled. Joey shared that he “is happy to have the opportunity to introduce and connect two organizations with shared values and missions.” We agree! We are excited to collaborate with Church Farm School and their students!

I’m so excited to see our care packages are available in North Carolina! As Mental Health Awareness month approaches, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of the mental health resources that we make available to schools and other youth organizations. Our teen mental health care package kits are made by youth for other youth. We are excited to be partnering with the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC) to involve local high school students in assembling the kits. If your school or youth group would like to request some of the care packages to distribute, please reach out! Each care package contains a handwritten message of support, a journal, a fidget toy, stickers, candy, and a friendship bracelet.

I spent last summer in Minneapolis at an internship and I absolutely fell in love with the city and its beautiful lakes and people. So I was very excited when I received a request from a student in the Minneapolis-St.Paul area for our teen mental health care package kits. She runs a mental health support group for teens in foster care and group homes and she will be making the care packages and distributing them to those teens. I am so happy to be able to support this incredible youth mental health advocate! If you would like to join our network of teens supporting other teens’ mental health, head over to our website to request our care packages. You can also make donations so that we can continue sending out these care package kits. They are costly to make and ship and every donation helps!

Today is World Mental Health Day! We believe that mental health care is a human right that everyone deserves access to. As a small, student run nonprofit, we focus more on the local than the global, but we’re excited to announce that our youth mental health care packages are expanding nationally. They are now available to students in Jonesboro, Arkansas! If your school would like to get involved, send us a message! You can find more information on our website www.letsbaketheworldabetterplace.com
