A Child's Light

A Child's Light A Child’s Light provides expedited mental health support for children and adolescents, ages 2 to 18, who have experienced severe trauma.

A Child’s Light provides no-cost, expedited trauma-informed therapy for children ages 2–18 who have experienced abuse or trauma—helping the most vulnerable children heal, thrive, and reclaim their childhood. Founded in Chester County, Pennsylvania, we work closely with law enforcement, schools, and community partners to identify children in crisis and connect them quickly and compassionately with

licensed trauma therapists. Following best practices and funding both pre-licensed and licensed therapists with trauma-informed training, children receive the resources and tools they need to shift their severe trauma experiences from defining their present to becoming a part of their past. All therapy sessions are fully funded by A Child’s Light, removing barriers such as cost, long waitlists, and confusion for families already facing overwhelming challenges. Because healing from trauma isn’t just about therapy—it’s about restoring hope, trust, and a sense of safety, we exist to ensure no child carries the weight of trauma alone. With your support, we can shine a light into the darkness and give every child the chance to heal, thrive, and reclaim their future. Ways to Give:

This past Tuesday, A Child’s Light was grateful to attend the wonderful barbecue luncheon hosted by the Chester County United Way!

It was such a meaningful opportunity to come together with fellow nonprofit leaders, community partners, local leaders, and government officials, all united by a shared commitment to making Chester County an even stronger community.

Events like these are a wonderful reminder of the power of connection and collaboration. When organizations and leaders come together, we can share ideas, build partnerships, and create an even greater impact for the individuals and families we serve.

We are incredibly grateful for all that the Chester County United Way does to support local nonprofits and strengthen our community. Their commitment to bringing people and organizations together helps make important work and meaningful change possible.

Thank you, Chester County United Way, for hosting such a wonderful afternoon and for all you do for A Child’s Light and so many other organizations throughout our community! 💛

Together, we can continue bringing Light, Hope & Healing to children and families who need it most. ✨

🥊🧠 Can movement help children work through trauma when words are difficult to find?

Downingtown nonprofit A Child’s Light recently completed a four-week pilot program combining therapeutic support with non-contact boxing, jump rope, grounding exercises and other physical activities for Chester County children affected by trauma.

The Strong Bodies, Calm Minds program was offered to families at no cost. Seven children actively participated, learning to recognize emotions, distinguish between heightened and regulated states, and develop self-regulation skills through movement and therapeutic reflection. ❤️

Organizers report that parents noticed progress and asked whether the program would return. That response is already shaping the next phase: A Child’s Light plans to expand future sessions from four weeks to eight and eventually bring the model to additional communities.

The approach incorporates somatic therapy, which focuses on connections between physical experiences and emotional responses—potentially giving children another way to engage when directly discussing difficult experiences is challenging.

Families interested in a future session can join a waitlist, while the nonprofit is seeking support to continue and expand the program.
