From the pioneering advocates of Southeast Los Angeles to iconic leaders of the Independent Living Movement such as Ed Roberts and Judy Heumann, a vision was set in motion: a future where disabled people are empowered to live independently, lead boldly, and fully participate in every aspect of society. It is our responsibility to carry that torch forward and continue building upon the legacy they created.
For far too long, disabled people have been treated as an afterthought—viewed through a lens of limitation rather than possibility, seen as problems to be solved rather than individuals with talents, aspirations, and valuable contributions to make. That narrative ends here.
Over the past 47 years—and especially during the last decade—CRS-IL Chief Executive Officer Rudy Contreras made a commitment to our Board of Directors, our staff, and the disability community: no more. No more neglect. No more service gaps. No more being overlooked. No more excuses.
Disabled people are worthy. Disabled people are capable. Disabled people are leaders, innovators, professionals, advocates, and changemakers. We will not accept complacency when it comes to advancing equity, opportunity, and inclusion for our community.
The results speak for themselves. CRS-IL has experienced tremendous growth over the last 10 years because our work is driven by the voices, needs, and aspirations of the communities we serve.
And now, Orange County—we heard you.
We are here. We are ready to serve. We are ready to build meaningful partnerships, create lasting change, and support the next generation of community leaders, advocates, and professionals as they pursue higher education, advocacy efforts and other opportunities.
This is more than expansion. This is a commitment to ensuring that disabled people have access to the resources, opportunities, and support they deserve—wherever they live.
Orange County, we can’t wait to connect with you.
More details coming very soon.
