Saving Lives, Changing the Culture
Founded in Bryan/College Station, Texas in 2004 by a group of local Christians who organized a 40-day campaign designed to revitalize pro-life efforts in their community, 40 Days for Life is a true grass-roots effort, as others who heard about that first campaign asked how they could do the same--and now 40 Days for Life campaigns have been held in over 535 cities, in 24 countries, with over 600,000 participants!
A local semi-annual campaign has been held in Downers Grove since 2008: in the fall starting in late September and in the spring starting on Ash Wednesday. Over 650 individuals have participated in our prayer vigils during that time. (Some choose to or must participate from home, but prayer knows no boundaries!)
The peaceful, charitable approach is responsible for saving the lives of nearly 14,000 babies--that we know of!--by showing the mothers (and fathers!) that loving options exist for their babies: support to help with expenses, true health care, counseling, and adoption services, among others.
Additionally many abortion workers have quit their jobs at abortion clinics during 40 Days for Life campaigns. The most renowned of these is Abby Johnson, now a fearless, dedicated, and compassionate pro-life advocate, with her own organization "And Then There Were None" (attwn.org) responsible for helping many former clinic workers leave the industry and find more rewarding work.
