What do you know about the history of Illinois towns?

Do you know of any Illinois towns which disappeared because of diminishing water source ? These days so much of the area is in drought, are any current extremely rural towns at risk ?

The Pottawatomie tribe was protective with early settlers in the area, mainly because they liked to trade. Eventually, they got pushed all the way to NE Kansas and Northcentral Oklahoma, by the tide of encroaching settlers. Downers Grove owes its existence to protection by the tribe, and it's close friendship with town founder Pierce Downer, who was very gentle spirited tall man with gray hair. He left his oldest daughter by herself, while returning to the east to fetch more relatives. Tribe moved it encampment to surround her cabin and guard her from any tribes that would harm her. Anyone from another tribe, on the war path would be met with a formidable resisting group of braves.
