We welcomed 22 members last evening to the April meeting of 100 Women Who Care at the Edwardsburg American Legion.
Presenters included Wakelee Bible Church Children's Ministry Project and Cass County School Supply Spectacular sponsored by United Way of Southwest Michigan.
Wakelee Bible Church Children's Ministry - Karen Lehman stated the focus is the necessary nursery area of the church to update a safe environment for children. With an influx of young families, they currently have seven toddlers and five newborns during a Sunday morning worship. Two of the babies were born this winter! Their attempt to provide an appropriate place for the children is essential. They have begun the project and continue to provide fund- raising for completion.
School Supply Backpacks - new school supply backpacks have been provided for 18 previous years in Cass County by United Way of Southwest Michigan. Children in PreK thru 12th grade will be served by this project. In 2025 there wert 850 students throughout the county who were supported with essential items with grade appropriate supplies. A major business funder was lost to assist in the average cost of $30.00 - $32.00 for each student. Registration online begins in June. Students must be present with a parent or guardian at distribution. Statistics show 41% of working families in our communities fall below the basic cost of living in the county and cannot afford their basic needs.
