Public safety doesn’t stop at prison walls—it extends into every community we serve. COAD stands alongside Senator Blunt Rochester in supporting efforts to close stablecoin loopholes that can be exploited by bad actors. Strong AML, BSA, and KYC protections help safeguard our communities, strengthen accountability, and support the safety of those we’re sworn to protect.

Protecting our communities means staying ahead of emerging threats.

Today we pause to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is more than a holiday—it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and honor for those who never made it home. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness continue to inspire us every day.

The Correctional Officers Association of Delaware proudly stands with all who remember and honor our fallen heroes. May we never forget the price of freedom and the families who continue to carry that sacrifice.

We remember. We honor. We are forever grateful. 🇺🇸

COAD stands firmly behind the mental health and wellness of the men and women who work behind the walls. Today, we proudly submitted our letter of support for the Blake Schwarz Su***de Prevention Act — legislation aimed at creating meaningful pathways for correctional professionals to access mental health resources, reduce stigma, and strengthen su***de prevention efforts.

Correctional officers face trauma, stress, and emotional burdens that often go unseen. Too many suffer in silence. Too many families have experienced unimaginable loss. This legislation represents more than policy — it represents recognition that correctional professionals deserve support, protection, and access to care without fear or stigma.

The profession teaches us strength, resilience, and service. But strength should never mean suffering alone.

COAD will continue advocating for resources, peer support, and initiatives that protect those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

Because taking care of our officers means taking care of our communities.

Today, we honor the women behind the badge and the women who wear it.

To the mothers of correctional officers — thank you for the strength, sacrifice, and unwavering support you give every single day. Your love helps carry our officers through some of the toughest moments imaginable.

To the mother correctional officers working long shifts, missing holidays, and still showing up for your families with love and resilience — you are the definition of strength.

And to the spouses of correctional officers who are also mothers — thank you for holding families together during the stress, overtime, exhaustion, and uncertainty that this profession often brings. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed.

Today, we celebrate all of you. Your compassion, courage, and dedication are the foundation of our families, our institutions, and our communities.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware. 💙

The Delaware Department of Correction proudly recognizes National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, May 3–9. Throughout the week, we will highlight the bravery, commitment, dedication, and teamwork demonstrated every day by our Correctional Officers and employees by recognizing this year’s annual award recipients.

We encourage everyone to take a moment this week to thank a Correctional Officer, Probation and Parole Officer, or DOC civilian employee for their service and for the important role they play in supporting offender rehabilitation, reentry, and public safety across our communities.

The Delaware Department of Correction today solemnly remembers and honors the heroes who faced unimaginable danger nine years ago during the inmate uprising at the James T. Vaughan Correctional Center in Smyrna. We pause to reflect on the courage, professionalism, and selfless service demonstrated by correctional staff who placed the safety of others above their own in a moment of crisis.

We especially honor the life and legacy of Lieutenant Steven R. Floyd Sr. who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Lieutenant Floyd’s bravery, dedication, and unwavering commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten. His service stands as a powerful reminder of the extraordinary risks and challenges correctional professionals face each day in the performance of their duties, often unseen, but always appreciated.

Lieutenant Floyd’s sacrifice continues to inspire our Department and the broader law enforcement community. His legacy lives on through the men and women who serve with the same courage, integrity, and sense of duty he embodied. We remain forever grateful for his service and honor his memory with deep respect and gratitude.

Each year, the Delaware Department of Correction pays special tribute to Lieutenant Floyd and all fallen DOC officers during our annual Remembrance Ceremony held in May. That solemn memorial coincides with state and national commemorations honoring law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

Please join us today in a moment of reflection and remembrance. We stand, as always, united in honoring the memory of our fallen. We pledge to never forget their sacrifice, to support their families and loved ones, and to continue the mission they so bravely achieved. Their courage will forever be etched into the history of our Department and the hearts of those who carry on their work.
