Thank you, Free Country!!

What began as a simple conversation in December between Council Chaplain Spero Kalambakas and Ted Kaidas quickly grew into something much bigger!
With the support of Council President Daniel Dermer, Free Country Outdoor Gear donated a large supply of winter coats, thermal gear, and more. Originally intended for select military units, the effort expanded to support all Council-sponsored units, along with their families and veterans in need.
An incredible example of how small moments can lead to meaningful impact!

Our NJ Navy League Council recently had a great meeting with the Navy in regards to the America 250th celebrations in NYC from July 3rd through the 8th. Going to be a very large event, over 100 ships and 125 aircraft currently planned. Plus Macy's 50th fireworks show.

On Sunday, September 28, 2025, Dan Dermer, Vince Robinson and Fernando Rivera went to Picatinny Homeland Defense Technology Center. While there they prepared hamburgers and hot dogs for the officers and cadets of the Travis Manion Battalion of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps. The Battalion was conducting their weekend drill and the three New Jersey Council Officers cooked and served lunch during their "Cadet Olympics." ✨After Lunch, Vice President of Military Affairs and US Coast Guard Academy Admissions Partner Fernando Rivera, gave the cadets a brief overview of the US Coast Guard Academy, its programs and the requirements to gain admissions. Several cadets expressed a desire to attend the US Coast Guard Academy upon High School graduation. 🌟Upon the conclusion of Fernando's presentation Council President Daniel Dermer discussed the New Jersey Council-Navy League of the US traditions, goals and purpose. He introduced the concept of what a "unit adoption" means and stated the intentions of the Travis Manion Battalion and the New Jersey Council-Navy League of the US to link together and be mutually supportive of each others organization. Dan and Manda Perrone, the Battalion's Commanding Officer then officially signed a formal adoption certificate.
🇺🇸About Travis Manion:
1st Lt. Travis Manion, USMC, was a Marine officer who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in Iraq in 2007. Known for his courage, leadership, and devotion to others, he lived by the words “If Not Me, Then Who…”—a legacy that continues to inspire young people to live with character and put service above self.
