Thank you for your leadership and partnership! 🧡

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to speak at End Community Violence Now’s 2nd Annual Community Violence Intervention Summit at State University.

The summit brought together community organizations, healthcare professionals, advocates, policymakers, law enforcement, and people with lived experience to collaborate on solutions to prevent violence and strengthen community safety across our state. I am incredibly grateful to everyone for their diligent work to prevent violence before it becomes a tragedy.

Gun violence has been at both ends of the news cycle this week, from the fatal shooting in Dover just days before the CVI Summit to the school shooting in Bend, Oregon yesterday. Both incidents underscore how imperative it is that we work together to prioritize prevention, intervention, and healing.

We’re bringing community partners together to map existing gun violence prevention resources in Dover, identify gaps, and envision what’s needed to strengthen prevention efforts and build safer communities.

If you represent a community-based organization, school district, service provider, state agency, or other related organization, we want to hear from you! Your knowledge, experiences, and ideas are essential to shaping the future of gun violence prevention in Dover.

That’s a wrap on the 2nd Annual Delaware Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Summit! 🎤🤝🏾

This year, we came together around a powerful message: Community Violence Intervention is critical infrastructure.

From prevention and intervention to healing, workforce development, and cross-sector collaboration, the conversations reinforced that building safer communities requires shared responsibility, sustained investment, and a coordinated, public health approach to violence prevention.

Thank you to our speakers, community partners, funders, sponsors, and everyone who joined us in Dover to move this work forward. The expertise, lived experiences, and commitment in the room are essential to strengthening Delaware’s approach to community safety.

The summit may be over, but the work continues. Together, we are building the partnerships, systems, and infrastructure needed to save lives and create safer communities across Delaware.

This is what it looks like to invest in prevention. This is what it means to build safety together.
