This statistic represents families forever changed, neighborhoods in mourning, and a cycle of trauma that demands our collective action.

This month, we are supporting the movement all month long because awareness is the first step toward intervention. We believe that gun violence is a preventable public health epidemic, and our mission is to break that cycle through coordinated, evidence-based programs and sustained community investment.

May is Trauma Awareness Month, a time to recognize the impact trauma has on individuals, families, and communities.

This month, ECVN was proud to host a trauma awareness and healing-centered training for GVI Support & Outreach and Dover LIT members, facilitated by Natasha Mullen.

The session focused on strengthening understanding of trauma, supporting community healing, and equipping frontline leaders with tools to sustain relationship-driven violence intervention work across Delaware.

For the ECVN team, community safety isn’t just a concept. It is a daily commitment.

Whether we are on the ground in the neighborhoods most impacted by violence or meeting with healthcare partners to expand services for survivors, our focus stays exactly the same. We are here to build a unified, statewide ecosystem that breaks the cycle of gun violence.

We believe that by aligning public safety, healthcare, and local leadership, we can create a Delaware where everyone feels secure in their own neighborhood.

Thank you for supporting our staff and our mission as we continue this work across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties.

"Community-led solutions are essential to breaking the cycle of violence." — Rob Wilcox

We are already deep into planning the 2nd Annual CVI Summit at Delaware State University on October 13th. As we look ahead, we’re reflecting on what it really takes to build safer communities.

True safety requires real resources. As the former Deputy Director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, Rob knows firsthand what it takes to back grassroots work, including pushing $400 million in federal funding directly to the organizations on the ground.

Now, Delaware continues to carry that mantle forward by building upon the playbook developed by Rob Wilcox and Greg Jackson through the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

True community safety isn't a one-organization job. It takes all of us.

This week, we want to highlight the incredible local groups who are putting in the hours and going through the Cure Violence training together. These teams show up on our streets every single day, and they are equipping themselves with new tools to better serve our neighborhoods.

We are so proud to be doing this work alongside:

➡️ ChristianaCare EVOLV
➡️ Center for Structural Equity
➡️ GVI Support & Outreach
➡️ OutLoud LLC.
➡️ Our ROOTS Foundation
➡️ Project New Start
➡️ The Carry Their Light Project

Thank you to all the violence interrupters, outreach workers and leaders from these organizations for your dedication. We are building a stronger safety net together.

The work of ending community violence is most effective when it is led by the people who actually live there. That is why we are building local coalitions across the state, and we really want you to be a part of yours.

We are looking for residents, leaders, and advocates who want to make a direct impact right in their own backyards. Your voice and your lived experience are exactly what we need to make a real difference for safety in Delaware.

Ready to connect? Here is how to find your local group:
New Castle County (Wilmington): Reach out to us directly at [email protected] to get started.
Kent County (Dover): Use the sign-up link in this post to join the conversation.
Sussex County: Sign up at the link below to get involved with our southernmost coalition.

Building a safer community is a team effort. Join us and let’s get to work.
