The Dover Colonial Rotary Club Prepares For the 32nd Annual Dover Colonial Running Festival, Featuring The Dover Mile and The Colonial 5K, This Wednesday, June 12th!
The Colonial Rotary Club of Dover addressed the final details of the forthcoming 32nd Annual Dover Mile and Colonial 5K Run at a recent club meeting. Leading the discussion were Alex Vaughan, the club in-coming president, and Ray Parker of TriSports. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, June 12th – rain or shine. The starting and finishing line will be located at the Governors Café across from Woodburn, the Governor’s House.
Both gentlemen went over all the details indicating that there were some changes, one of these being the route for the mile run. Rather than going up State Street as in the past, it will basically be along American Avenue, turning onto Maryland, down to Delaware, then Kent and finally Kings Highway, ending at the Governors Café area. Another change will be the availability of greeters who will welcome and assist the runners by directing them to the proper registration table. Thanks to the new route, a $600 saving is estimated as fewer police officers will be needed to stop incoming traffic. In addition, there will not be a need for a bus to bring the runners to the starting line.
All monies raised via this event go right back into the community outreach. Registration for the event will begin at 5:00 pm, the flag ceremony at 5:30 pm, the Dover mile at 6:00 pm, the 5K run at 6:30 pm and the awards scheduled for 7:45 pm. It is very important that everyone be on time for their selected activity thus avoiding unnecessary delays.
