A beautiful evening in Rehoboth Beach, DE closing out the Summer season at the Clear Space Theater with a wonderful musical performance of "Pretty Woman". Dinner was enjoyed before at Ava's Pizzeria and Wine Bar and ice cream at Double Dippers. Many took a short walk to the beach to top a fun Summer evening with great friends.

Today is Ferragosto 🇮🇹

The roots of one of Italy’s best-known summer holidays stretch back more than 2,000 years. In 18 BC, Emperor Augustus established the Feriae Augusti, a period of rest and celebration following weeks of agricultural labor. The tradition also became connected with existing Roman festivities held during August.

The ancient observance was originally associated with the beginning of August, rather than specifically August 15. Over the centuries, Ferragosto became tied to August 15 and the Catholic Feast of the Assumption of Mary.

Today, August 15 is a public holiday in Italy. For many Italians, Ferragosto means time away from work, vacations, trips to the beach or mountains, meals with family and friends, and enjoying the height of the Italian summer.

From its ancient Roman roots to the modern Italian holiday, Ferragosto has evolved dramatically while remaining one of the most recognizable dates on Italy’s summer calendar.

It's been a very busy and successful couple of days preparing for and holding our Annual Indoor Yardsale Fundraiser at the Wyoming United Methodist Church in Dover. Many thanks to our members for their time and donations of merchandise to make it all happen in support of our Scholarship Fund, Veterans Charity -Fisher House Home for the Fallen at Dover Air Force Base and other Lodge activities.

Happy 250th birthday, America! 🇺🇸🎆

Two hundred and fifty years of independence, and Italians and Italian Americans have played an integral part of that history every step of the way. From Filippo Mazzei, whose ideas helped shape the Declaration of Independence, to Fiorello La Guardia, the first Italian American mayor of New York City, to John Basilone, who gave everything defending this country. In the arts, voices like Frank Sinatra and Madonna, and storytellers like Martin Scorsese, have shaped American culture and carried Italian heritage onto the world stage. They worked the docks, the fields, the family shops. They raised children to believe in this country, while never forgetting where they came from. That love of family and country, side by side, is a gift passed down through generations.

Today we celebrate the red, white, and blue alongside the green, white, and red.
