Enoch Crosby NSDAR

Enoch Crosby NSDAR Founded in 1926 in Carmel, Putnam County, New York, our chapter has a long history of community and patriotic service. Welcome to our page!

If you would like to join us for a chapter meeting or would like more information about DAR or our chapter, please feel free to message us here and one of our admins will get back to you. We also invite you to explore our website: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyeccdar/. The Enoch Crosby Chapter NSDAR was formed and held their first meeting on April 8, 1926. Our chapter is named in honor of En

och Crosby, the soldier and "spy" whose feats during the Revolutionary War in Westchester and Putnam counties, "the neutral zone", were thought to inspire James Fenimore Cooper's The Spy. Our chapter is made up of dynamic women who are committed to the three pillars of DAR—historic preservation, education, and patriotism. We meet usually on the second Saturday of the month at the Walter Brewster House in Brewster at 10:00 a.m. We are currently 99 members strong…and growing! Great to join members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Enoch Crosby Chapter) on the steps of the Historic Putnam County Courthouse to commemorate their 100th anniversary.

As a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution, it made the moment even more meaningful to reflect on the legacy of those who fought for our independence.

Grateful for DAR’s continued commitment to preserving our history, and for their generous $1,000 contribution to support the restoration of the Sybil Ludington statue.

Thanks to a strong public-private partnership, more than $100,000 has already been committed to this important project. We look forward to restoring this historic landmark in time for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

And thank you to our County Historian Jennifer Cassidy and our Department of Public Works for helping move this effort forward. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 George Washington’s Birthday

Today we honor the birth of George Washington, commander of the Continental Army and the first President of the United States.

His leadership during the American Revolution and his example of service to the new Republic set a standard that continues to shape our nation.

As members of the Enoch Crosby Chapter, NSDAR, we proudly remember the legacy of courage, integrity, and devotion to liberty that began with our first President.

🇺🇸 Presidents’ Day

Today we honor Presidents’ Day by remembering that the presidency itself was born from the American Revolution.

When George Washington took the oath of office, he set a lasting example of service, restraint, and devotion to the Republic.

As members of the Enoch Crosby Chapter, NSDAR, we remain committed to preserving the history and principles that formed our nation — and to honoring the leadership that continues to guide it.

These were the moments many paused with us this year — days of remembrance, gratitude, and shared history.

Behind every post were members gathering, honoring, learning, and serving together.

In 2026, we’re excited to share more of both — the moments we remember and the people who carry them forward.

Which moment this year stood out to you?

Today we honor the National Guard, founded on December 13, 1636 — the oldest military force in the United States.

For nearly four centuries, Guard members have served their communities and our nation in moments of crisis and calm, always ready to answer the call.

The Enoch Crosby Chapter, NSDAR, extends heartfelt gratitude to all past and present members of the National Guard.
Your service matters. Your sacrifice is remembered. 🇺🇸
