Getting lost happens. Maybe not to everyone but it can happen to anybody. Sometimes its a problem. Sometimes its temporary.

Let's hope if you get lost, you can laugh about it later and not repeat that mistake.

Humor below. Man, I feel old today!

Our first annual event at Buckhorn Camps has come to an end, and what an incredible week it was.

Watching a diverse group of kids learn critical skills, create lasting memories, and form new friendships was even more rewarding than we could have imagined. We are already looking forward to next year.

Interested in having your child attend? Keep an eye on announcements from Buckhorn Camps and contact them as soon as dates are released. Space is limited, and registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

A huge thank-you goes out to everyone who helped make this event possible. So much work happens behind the scenes, and none of it would be possible without the dedication of so many amazing people. The staff at Buckhorn were outstanding, and the accommodations and food were exceptional. A big thank you to local Game Warden, Sean Higgins, who came out to chat with the kids about the warden service and answer questions.

I think it's safe to say that every one of us left the island just a little different than when we arrived.

Until next time!

Every child deserves the chance to experience the magic of the outdoors.

Right now, too many kids are missing out on life-changing adventures simply because of financial barriers. When we started Nanoq Guides, we made a promise: no child would ever be turned away because of what their family could afford.

That’s why we created our scholarship and gear fund. Your support will provide scholarships and essential outdoor equipment so more young people can learn survival skills, build real confidence, and create lasting memories in nature.

Every single donation makes a direct difference. Whether it’s $10, $25, or more — you’re helping a child step outside, try something new, and grow stronger.

The 2026 Puckerbrush Primitive Gathering happened at Pleasant River Fish & Game Conservation Association. Nanoq Guide Services & Survival Training and Wandering Raven, Edge & Hide are always excited to be there!

Our crew arrived Thursday to try to help clear campsites and do maintenance on the property as a thank you to the amazing individuals making this happen event happen every year.

Memories were made and laughs were shared from the very beginning. A MicroCell storm arrived on the property when we pulled in. We waited an hour for the rain to let up. Then we had the kids grab their tents and tarps and we ran down to the camping area to try to establish our sleeping areas. You can imagine that all good plans fall apart despite your best effort. It would seem that the powers above wanted to test our resolve. The moment we opened up and began assembling the tents, the skies Unleashed torrents of rain and wind again. Every kid and every adult were soaked to the bone. Water dripping office like we were swimming.

"If it ain't raining we ain't training" - is all Levi and myself said as we laughed and laughed.

Day one the kids got to learn about setting up under stress, proper ways to ventilate after a storm, and how to efficiently dry things out. They did get to go swimming since it was warm rain and warm water all around.

The rest of the events and activities went off like clockwork. We had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones. The kids got to eat great food, cook things over the fire, play Manhunt at night among other things that kids should be allowed to do.

Now we are packing and prepping for Buckhorn Camps!

We can't do what we do without the donations and support of the local families and businesses that see the effort we put in and the positive impact it has on the kids. Please donate today to help us replenish our scholarship fund and refill the supplies we've used so that we can wrap the year in good shape and hit the ground running hard for 2027.

Its Game Time!
It's a great feeling when we're getting finished packed up and hitting the road to one of our coveted and favorite events of the year. That's right, we're heading back to Pleasant River Fish & Game Conservation Association for their annual Puckerbrush Primitive Gathering. This year we will be handling teaching the basics of archery for all ages during the two days of the event. In cooperation with Wandering Raven, Edge & Hide who has some of the best gear you can buy or he can create anything your mind comes up with. The Rangers are excited and we are always pumped to get back on site and enjoy the camaraderie and community that always shows up to hang out with us!

What is after this? Our last event for the summer:

Our 2026 Dirigo Rangers Class has come to an end. This is our yearly survival/bushcraft class aimed at children or families. We had some new students join us this year and they worked diligently throughout the eight days they were on site. Lots of new friends and laughter were shared by all. Learning new skills and honing others to be proficient in the outdoors. We covered many topics including medical/first aid, foraging, shelter building, knots and more. 4 have our Rangers not only helped build primitive shelters but we're brave enough to sleep in them for an entire evening.

On Saturday we were fortunate to be able to attend the Maine Sportsman's Challenge. This year we were not able to go as a vendor but we brought the kids to compete and have a good time. They got to compete in eight different events, be given a very Hands-On session in tanning a deer head and won some prizes.

Thanks goes to all the families who allow their children to attend. A huge thank you our supporters and donors this year who helped make this class happen. We will tag them in the first comment.

Our next event is the Puckerbrush Primitive Gathering in Columbia, Maine, hosted by the Pleasant River Fish & Game Conservation Association. We plan on arriving July 16th and staying until close of events on July 19th. Our crew is going to spend the day helping prep the property for everyone who arrives on friday.

Currently, our final event of the year is also our newest event. In conjunction with Buckhorn Camps, we have their kids survival class hosted on their remote island the first full week of August. Please check out their page, see the information they post and reserve your spot before they are all gone.

Thanks for another great summer and we look forward to seeing everybody again soon.
Like what we do? Please donate so we can continue doing more and reaching more kids!
