A huge thank you to the Evelyn S. and K.E. Barrett Foundation for supporting our Summer Snack Kit program! ☀️📚🍎

This summer, children throughout Piscataquis County will be able to pick up nutritious snack kits through the Thompson Free Library's Read and Feed Program and at local libraries across the region. These kits will help ensure kids have healthy fuel for reading, exploring, playing, and making the most of their summer adventures.

When school is out, access to food can become more challenging for many families. Thanks to the Barrett Foundation's generosity, we're helping bridge that gap while supporting literacy and learning in our communities.

Together, we're helping local kids fuel up for fun all summer long. Thank you for investing in the health and well-being of our children! ❤️

🌽💚 A Giant THANK YOU to our friends at Piscataquis Forward!

Thanks to their generous donation of hundreds of Bumper Crop certificates, our shoppers will have even more opportunities to access fresh, locally grown food this season!

These certificates can be redeemed at more than 50 farmers’ markets across Maine, helping individuals and families stretch their food budgets while supporting local farmers and strengthening Maine’s food system.

We are incredibly grateful to Piscataquis Forward for investing in the health and well-being of our community and for helping connect our neighbors with nutritious, local foods.

Thank you for helping us make fresh food more accessible, one market, one family, and one community at a time! 🍅🥕🥬

We’re excited to share that Piscataquis Regional Food Center has been awarded funding from Maine Cancer Foundation to support a new healthy eating and wellness initiative: Nourish Piscataquis

Building on the success of our Healthy Additions program, Nourish Piscataquis will help rural residents experiencing food insecurity access healthy meal kits, nutrition education, simple recipes, cooking opportunities, and wellness-focused activities designed to support long-term health.

We are incredibly grateful to Maine Cancer Foundation for investing in rural health and helping us continue building programs that nourish both body and community.

Maine Cancer Foundation’s grant is offered as part of their ongoing efforts to reduce cancer incidence and mortality in Maine. They have invested over $22 million since 2015 in support of cancer prevention, early detection and screening, and access to care for all Mainers. There are many reasons to love living in Maine during the warm summer months. Our favorite may be the Senior FarmShare Program.

Maine Senior FarmShare (MSFP) provides income-eligible older adults the opportunity to receive a share (worth $50) of local fruits, vegetables, fresh herbs, and honey at no cost from select Maine farmers during the growing season.

Registration begins online on June 1st or directly with participating farms. Registration at Farmer's Markets begins June 6th. Need a little help registering online? PRFC and the Food Center are available to help.

For more information on this Maine Senior FarmShare and to see if you are eligible, visit https://www.maine.gov/dacf/ard/food-assistance/farmshare/olderadults.shtml

🌟 Thank You Thursday 🌟

Today, we’re sending a huge THANK YOU to our incredible Fresh Rescue partners, Shaw's Supermarket and Edwards Brothers Supermarkets Dover-Foxcroft, for helping us keep fresh, nourishing, and comforting foods on our shelves for our neighbors across Piscataquis County. ❤️

Because of their ongoing generosity, families visiting the Food Center are able to bring home essentials like fresh milk, bread, apples and produce, along with a few sweet treats that can brighten a difficult week.

In a rural community like ours, access to fresh food can be a challenge, and partnerships like these make a real difference every single day. We simply could not offer the variety and quality of foods we do without the support of community-minded businesses willing to step up and help reduce waste while feeding neighbors.

Thank you, Shaw’s and Edward’s Brothers, for being part of the village that helps nourish our community. 🥖🍎🥛💚
