1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program- The goal of this program is to promote reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers and to encourage parent and child bonding through reading. This program i
s based upon evidence from research findings that the more children ages 0-5 years hear books read to them, the more prepared they will be to learn to read upon reaching kindergarten. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge is a simple and very manageable endeavor (read any book to your child with the goal of reading 1,000 before kindergarten). The library will provide the parents with reading logs to track how many books they have read to their children and give incentives when the families reach certain reading milestones. When the families have reached 1,000 books before the child reaches kindergarten, they have successfully completed the program. This program is FREE to all Dolores County residents. For more information come to the Elementary Library to register your child or call for more information. Libby/OverDrive- Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, and more for FREE!
