It's time for ***Kids African Dance Camp*** at the CAC!

Taught by talented instructor Mabinti Shabu, in this camp students will learn two dances from the Republic of Guinea-West Africa and have an opportunity to discuss and design traditional African dance costumes.

In this video you will see young students performing a dance that Mabinti Shabu taught them. You'll also see costume lappas (fabric skirts ) that were made for the performance.

***Save the date for a summery, evening hang out with your neighbors***

On July 23rd, we will be hosting our 2026 Summer Pop Up Arts Party at the historic CAC building and grounds from 5 to 7:30 pm.

We have a great variety of arts/crafts and food/dessert/drink vendors including Fried Fish, Shrimp, and more from the Kai Time Food Truck and Polish American classics from Sharberry Kitchen. There will also be cocktails available from Lil Lady Cartier Bartending.

Musicians, including folk singer and guitarist Tyler McDermott, will play on our front porch to add that extra southern, summertime, ambience.

This is on a Thursday night so be sure to plan ahead to have your dinner with us after work. There will be a fine arts exhibit inside the CAC to explore while you're here.

Sign your kids (age 7-12) up to experience all the fun of creating a theater production from conception to performance in July's "A Celebration in Fairytale Land" theater production course.

This 3-session course, by local acting instructor Tammy Barton, goes beyond acting and introduces kids to more nuanced aspects of production.

Sign up here: https://artsdouglas.org/product/a-celebration-in-fairytale-land-production-class-with-performance/

This is an excellent introduction to theater, but would also be fun for more experienced young actors. There is a final performance at the end so family and friends can see the results of all that hard work.
