Circles Douglas County builds relational networks to support motivated people in their aspirational goals to overcome poverty.

We also work to reduce the barriers that exist in our community that may slow progress in achieving these goals. Circles Douglas County is a poverty-reduction model based on building intentional friendships across income lines. Circles participants save money and build social capital. Over time, participants and volunteers develop relationships and create networks. Resource Teams connect participa

Our April Circles Advisory Council had was in-person! As well as reflecting on a successful 5k event we also welcomed Rev. Scott York to the group. Scott will be taking over from Andrew as the new Coordinator for Circles Douglas County at the end of the month.

Family Fun Night did not disappoint!

From Giant Jenga showdowns to mini basketball buzzer beaters to Bingo wins, it was a night full of laughs, friendly competition, and time well spent together. Young and old alike got in on the fun, and it showed.

Safe to say… a good time was had by all! 💙

Our heartfelt thanks to Mike Moore, owner/operator of Chick-fil-A Fairburn Road Drive-Thru Only, for his continued support of Circles Douglas County.

Mike generously provides boxed dinners for us every fourth Thursday, and our Circles community always looks forward to the chicken sandwiches, chips, and chocolate chip cookies.

We are so grateful for partners like Mike who show up for our community in such a consistent and meaningful way. Thank you - we appreciate you!

Big thanks to Heather Guger for joining us last week and leading a session on internet security. In today’s world, this is essential, yet often overlooked.

Whether you’re running the scenic trails at Clinton Nature Preserve or walking with friends, this is a great way to start your Saturday morning while supporting a meaningful cause. All finishers will receive a race shirt, top runners in each age group will receive awards, and we’ll have snacks and drinks waiting for you at the finish line. We’ve also added improved course marking this year and the chance to choose your own finish-line song to make the experience even more fun.

There’s still time to register, so grab a friend and sign up before race day!

Last Tuesday was Big View Night. At Circles, we recognize that while there are things we can do to empower people on their journey out of poverty, there are also systemic barriers that can make that journey more challenging — like the high cost of childcare, limited transportation options, and rising rent.

Our current cohort is focusing on the power of storytelling as a way to share the wisdom they’ve gained along their journey — the things they wish they had known when they were younger.

Thank you to Rev. Dr. James Harper for facilitating another meaningful Big View discussion as we continue exploring these important topics together.

Today, we’re celebrating our partnership with Wellstar Health System, an incredible community partner over the past several years.

From providing engaging speakers for our Resource Nights on topics like career pathways at Wellstar and health and wellness, to investing financially in our mission, their support has made a meaningful impact. We’re especially grateful that Wellstar has awarded Circles Douglas County another community grant to strengthen our kids program and help provide nutritious meals at our weekly meetings.
