Monocacy Hill volunteers needed:
When: Sunday June 14th from 8AM to 10:15AM
Where: We will meet at the main parking lot on Monocacy Hill Road
What: Anyone can volunteer, there is always work to be done. Specifically We need people to assist running w**d whackers along certain parts of the trail. We have a couple extra w**d whackers, but we can always use more. We will have other tasks to complete as well if you can't run a w**d whacker.

Bring hiking boots, water, gloves and eye protection (if you are running a w**d whacker).

If you already signed a waiver, you do not need to do another one. If you are a new volunteer, sign up here:

I’ve been collecting Berks County dog tags for a few years. It began when I started finding them metal detecting. Then it became a challenge to collect every year up until 1970 when they switched from brass to aluminum. For years I thought the 1914 was the oldest. I have 3 of them. I recently found this 1913. I never knew it existed. It has a back print that reads, “Reading PA” and other wording that I cannot make out. I’ve never seen this before. I think this may have been a prototype or something. This is as rare as they come…..if you’re into collecting Berks County dog licenses 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

One of the oldest photos from Amity Township. The Washington House, later known as the Amity House. This building once stood at the intersection of Old Airport Road and Old Swede Road. Using modern technology we can clean it up a bit and add some color.

With the help of AI, we can explore old black and white photos in color. I have mixed feeling about this, but I like trying it out now and then. This is the Amity Overall Factory (early 1900’s) and later a feed store (50’s - 70’s).

Today, our department mourns the heartbreaking loss of Officer Kristen Yeager, who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a call for service on May 29, 2026.

Officer Yeager served our community with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication. She answered the call to protect and serve each day, placing the safety of others above her own. Her commitment to her badge, her fellow officers, and the citizens she served will never be forgotten.

We ask that you keep Officer Yeager’s family, friends, and our entire law enforcement family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Officer Yeager. Your watch has ended, but your legacy of service and sacrifice will live on forever. We got it from here.

🖤💙 End of Watch: May 29, 2026

I don’t know the year or the reason for the parade, but I sure do miss Zern’s. What do you miss the most? For me it’s the stand that sold the peanuts and such.

A train crosses Main Street in Monocacy station. Exact year unknown. What are the guesses on the year this was taken?
