In the Spring of 2014 the old tennis courts at Schultz Park were removed. After the snow melted in the spring of 2015 the new pickleball courts were started. First the area was leveled and prepared for asphalt by The City of the Village of Douglas DPW. After the asphalt was laid, it was quickly followed by the fences and in late June the courts were painted and the lines striped. Next came the win

dscreens and the viewing platform with walkways to the covered pavilion. It took many hard working, devoted individuals to make this happen. In particular Stephen and Holly who collectively worked on building the interest in pickleball with free lessons, demonstrations and the use of paddles and balls. The City of the Village of Douglas, Walt and Stephen, the Community Recreation Department of the Saugatuck School System, and an abundance of private donors answered the call to complete the funding and the goal was in sight. It took dedication, continuous oversight and perseverance to get it done but at long last a dream has become a reality, and the courts have been constructed. The Douglas Saugatuck Pickleball Club will forever be thankful for the gift of these courts and for every individual who worked to make it possible. BRAVO to everyone who made it possible and a heartfelt thank you to Walt and Stephen for their incredible generosity and determination for making certain that their pledge resulted in such a wonderful gift to our community!
