All of Coffee County’s veteran organizations came together at South Georgia State College for a ball game that meant more than just baseball.

A special thank you to South Georgia State College—its coaches, students, faculty, and staff—for hosting another outstanding event and for recognizing our veterans in such a meaningful way.

Different groups. Different roles. One purpose—to honor our veterans.

A special thank you to Drew Tanner for coming out to throw the first pitch.

Thank you as well to the American Legion, Wreaths Across America, the Douglas-Coffee County Veterans Park Committee, our fellow VFW and VFW Auxiliary Post 5976 members, and all the fans who came out to support. Having all of these organizations come together was a great experience, and we can’t wait to do it again.

We are incredibly grateful to the CCA Key Club and the local community members who stepped up to help gather donations for the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville. Acts like this truly matter, reminding our veterans that their sacrifices are seen, appreciated, and never forgotten — especially during the Christmas season. We are also deeply thankful for schools like CCA that are teaching our youth the importance of honoring, respecting, and supporting our veterans, lessons that will carry far beyond this season. On behalf of the VFW and the VFW Auxiliary Post 5976, thank you for answering the call to serve those who once answered it for us.

Congratulations to our 2025 Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy winners!

From Coffee Middle School, our Patriot’s Pen winners are:
• 1st Place – Aarav Patel
• 2nd Place – Palmer Morgan
• 3rd Place – Ashdyn Anzel

From Citizens Christian Academy, our Patriot’s Pen winners are:
• 1st Place – Summer Polk
• 2nd Place – Mayslee Johnson
• 3rd Place – Harper Spivey

And for the Voice of Democracy competition at Citizens Christian Academy:
• 3rd Place – Landon Tanner
• And for the first time ever… a tie for 1st Place between Emma Carr and Korylyn Bennett!

These students poured their hearts into their essays and speeches, and their words remind us exactly why patriotism, responsibility, and community still matter. Congratulations to every winner — and to every student who took the time to write, reflect, and honor what it means to be an American.

Today in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda, the Veterans Mental Health Council's Combat Boot Display honored veterans lost to su***de.

Every day, as many as 44 veterans are lost to su***de. To honor their memories and raise awareness about this tragic epidemic, 44 pairs of combat boots were on display. Each pair was adorned with a dog tag bearing the name of a veteran who has died by su***de.

Today our hearts are full. We want to give a big, well-deserved shout-out to our newest VFW Auxiliary member, Bradly Cammack, coach at South Georgia State College, for stepping up in a huge way and organizing volunteers for the Veterans Day program at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville.
