A different perspective can change an entire industry.

Temple Grandin’s ability to think in pictures has helped her understand animal behavior and drive meaningful improvements in livestock handling and welfare. At an event hosted by Alabama Extension and the Madison County Cattlemen’s Association, farmers and community members heard highlights from her groundbreaking research and discoveries.

For Ali Gotcher, an Alabama Extension animal science and forages agent who organized the event, Grandin’s work has influenced both her cattle operation and her role helping producers.

This week, the Winston County Extension Office staff joined Winston County Alabama 4-H and 4-H members nationwide in celebrating National 4-H Week by wearing green for Go Green Day! We are proud to support the positive youth development opportunities that 4-H provides to young people in our community each year.

We're also excited to show off our refreshed front porch! A huge thank you to the Winston County Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Committee for their generous support, Linda Moody for helping organize this project and coordinate the decor and plants, and Jerry Mobley for building our beautiful benches.

We're grateful for the partnerships and community spirit that make Winston County such a special place. Whether through youth development, volunteer service, or community beautification, we can accomplish so much when we work together!

We can’t let the day pass without recognizing two more incredible community partners who go above and beyond for Winston County 4-H: Northwest RC&D and Double Springs Veterinary Clinic!

Because of your generosity, support, and commitment to youth, we are able to provide meaningful educational experiences and hands-on programs that our students truly love. From fostering career exploration to creating unique learning opportunities, your partnership helps make a lasting impact on the lives of young people across Winston County.

We would like to take a moment to thank all of the superintendents, schools, teachers, administrators, career coaches, and counselors who have welcomed and supported Winston County 4-H programming. We are especially grateful for our partner teachers who open their classrooms and work with us to provide meaningful educational experiences for students throughout the county.

The opportunity to connect with youth through hands-on lessons, leadership development, agricultural education, and life skills programming would not be possible without your support and collaboration. Thank you for making 4-H a valued part of your school day and for investing in the success of our young people.

Thankful Thursday

Our next community partner we want to recognize on this Thankful Thursday is the Winston County Soil & Water Conservation District. This dedicated group is constantly seeking ways to support and invest in the youth of Winston County. Whether through generous donations, educational opportunities, or volunteering their time at events and programs, they are always willing to step up and make a difference.

The Winston County Soil & Water Conservation District plays an important role in helping young people learn about conservation, stewardship, and the importance of protecting our natural resources. Their commitment to education and community involvement helps create meaningful experiences that inspire the next generation of leaders.

Winston County 4-H could never fully express our appreciation for everything they do to support our programs and our youth. We are truly grateful for their partnership and their continued investment in the future of Winston County.

Thankful Thursday

Today, we want to recognize and thank Jamie Segroves with the Winston County Forestry Commission for his tireless support and dedication to Winston County 4-H. Jamie is one of our valued volunteers who will be helping lead our Forestry Club this year, and he is also a key volunteer with our FAWN program.

We could never put into words how grateful we are for volunteers like Jamie who consistently go above and beyond to invest in our youth. Their time, knowledge, and willingness to serve make a lasting impact on the lives of young people throughout our community.

Winston County is blessed with so many incredible individuals who believe in supporting the next generation. Jamie, thank you for all you do for Winston County 4-H and for the youth we serve. We appreciate your commitment, generosity, and passion more than you know!

Once again, we are honored to recognize one of our outstanding volunteers who consistently goes above and beyond to support Winston County 4-H and youth programs. Mrs. Linda Moody never hesitates to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed. From decorating outside our office to leading groups at FAWN, she brings enthusiasm, dedication, and a servant's heart to everything she does. Her reliability and willingness to jump in and help make a tremendous difference in the success of our programs. We are truly fortunate to have volunteers like Mrs. Linda who care so deeply about our youth and community. Thank you, Mrs. Linda, for all you do for Winston County 4-H!
