The Alfred Saliba Family Services Center joins people across our nation and around the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton.
Dolly Parton will forever be remembered as an extraordinary entertainer, songwriter, businesswoman, and cultural icon. But for the families and children we serve, her legacy is also found somewhere much simpler — in the pages of a book placed in the hands of a child.
Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she transformed her belief in the power of reading into a worldwide movement, providing millions of children with books and helping parents build a love of reading in their homes.
The Alfred Saliba Family Services Center is deeply honored to operate Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for Houston County, Alabama. Every month, children throughout our community receive books because Dolly believed that where a child is born or what a family earns should never determine whether that child has the opportunity to discover the joy of reading.
Her vision closely reflects the mission of the Saliba Center: strengthening families, creating opportunities, and giving children the foundation they need to succeed.
Today, we grieve the loss of a remarkable woman, but we also celebrate a life that demonstrated what can happen when success is used in service to others.
Dolly's voice will continue through her music. Her compassion will continue through the countless lives she touched. And here in Houston County, her legacy will continue every time another Imagination Library book arrives in a child's mailbox and another parent opens that book to read with their child.
We are proud to be a small part of carrying that legacy forward.
Thank you, Dolly, for believing in children, believing in families, and reminding all of us that a simple book can open a world of possibilities.
With gratitude and deepest sympathy,
Alfred Saliba Family Services Center
