Dothan To Celebrate America 250 With Free Concerts

Dothan, Ala. — The City of Dothan is inviting the community to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with two free military band performances at the Dothan Opera House next month.

According to a press release from the City of Dothan Community Relations Office on May 20, both concerts will be free to attend, but tickets are required.

“The City of Dothan is inviting the community to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with two exciting nights of live music at the Dothan Opera House this June,” the release stated.

The celebration will begin Wednesday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. with a performance by the 151st Army National Guard Band.

“Known for their dynamic musicianship and patriotic spirit, the band will deliver an evening of music honoring the nation’s history and service members,” the release stated.

The second concert is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m. featuring the United States Naval Academy Band’s Electric Brigade.

The performance will feature “a high-energy show featuring patriotic favorites alongside contemporary hits,” according to the release.

Officials said free tickets for both events can be reserved online through the City of Dothan.

Concertgoers are encouraged to reserve tickets early and participate in the downtown Dothan America 250 celebration events.

Here is a note about the music from Erin Smith, the conductor of this Spring’s concert:

You are invited to sing with us as we celebrate the diversity of our culture as represented in the backgrounds of our singers. During this, the semi-quincentennial celebration of our Nation’s birth, the Tri-State Community Choir will join performing art organizations across the country in producing a range of patriotic-inspired art installations and concerts. The goal of our concert is to celebrate our country and the vast diasporic communities that have shaped its development through a themed concert entitled Voices Beyond Borders: Singing the Tapestry of Our Country. Each year we gather a diverse group of individuals from all walks of life across Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle, but this time we seek to prepare a concert of musically and culturally significant choral works reflecting the heterogeneous nature of our country. Based on an internal, anonymous survey conducted in June 2025, Artistic Director and conductor Erin M. Smith, with support from the artistic committee and board of directors, selected pieces that attempt to blend the American aesthetic with the cultural heritage of our members. In a time of turmoil and division, this concert seeks to celebrate the beauty and diversity of our citizens. We, the members of TSCC, are united in opening minds and hearts through music that edifies, challenges, and affirms our shared humanity. This concert offers our choir and community a chance to honor the global traditions woven into the fabric of the United States.

Whether you're a returning member or singing with us for the first time, come be part of a living tapestry of voices—woven together in harmony, celebrating the spirit and soul of our Country and the plethora of diverse cultures, which built it.

If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].

I hope many of you can participate and look forward to singing with you. Click the link below to register with us.
