Happy World Scout Day & 169th Birth Anniversary of Lord Baden-Powell! ⚜️❤️

February 22nd, we celebrate the birthday of Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell (B.P.), the founder of the Scout Movement, and observe World Scout Day across the globe. 🌍

In 1907, Lord Baden-Powell organized a small experimental camp with only 20 boys on Brownsea Island, England. Following the massive success of his book, Scouting for Boys in 1908, this small spark ignited the world’s largest non-political youth movement, dedicated to service and character building. 🛡️

🌟 Why This Day is Special
The Founder’s Legacy: Born in London in 1857, B.P. envisioned a world where young people are prepared to lead with integrity. 🕯️
A Double Celebration: Remarkably, his wife and World Chief Guide, Lady Olave Baden-Powell, shares the same birthday today! 👫
Renewing the Promise: Millions of Scouts worldwide take this day to renew their Scout Promise and commit to making the world a better place. 🤝

"Try and leave this world a little better than you found it." — Lord Baden-Powell 🖋️

Warmest wishes to all Scouts, Rovers, and Leaders. Let’s continue to serve with courage and kindness! ⚜️🚩

✨ Service Recognitions - Available Soon✨

Those of us who live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law know the lifelong impact of Scouting. To celebrate the many ways Scouting alumni give back—through their community, profession, faith, and of course Scouting itself—Scouting Alumni has created a special commemorative medallion.

This recognition isn’t about forms, signatures, or approvals. It’s about recognizing the countless good deeds and years of service that alumni give “on their honor.”

Available Medallions:
🥉 25 Years of Service (Bronze)
🥇 50 Years of Service (Gold)
🥈 75 Years of Service (Silver)

Each medallion features Lord Baden-Powell and can be engraved with a name or years of service. Lapel pins and downloadable certificates are also available to make presentations even more meaningful.

📌 Presentations can be done simply, with honor and dignity, at unit, district, or council gatherings. Recipients may self-purchase or be recognized by others who want to celebrate their impact.

Scouting shapes character. This tribute celebrates those who carry that impact forward through a lifetime of service. 🌟

Today, we pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the heroes who responded with courage in the face of unthinkable danger.

Among those heroes was Welles Crowther, a Scouting alum, whose story continues to inspire more than two decades later.

When the South Tower of the World Trade Center was struck, Welles found himself on the 78th floor. Instead of seeking safety for himself, he chose to help others. Using a red bandanna—something he had carried since childhood—as a makeshift mask, he guided people down through the smoke and chaos. Survivors recall a calm, steady voice urging them to keep moving, assuring them they would make it out.

Welles saved as many as 18 people that day, making multiple trips back into danger before ultimately losing his life when the tower collapsed. His story remained unknown until survivors began speaking of "the man in the red bandanna."

His legacy is a reminder of what it means to live a life of purpose, service, and bravery. It’s also a call to each of us to consider how we might step forward—whether in moments of crisis or in our everyday lives—to serve others before ourselves.

As we remember 9/11, may we also remember Welles Crowther’s example and the countless acts of courage shown that day.

🕊️ We will never forget.
