These individuals have either called the Wiregrass home or impacted the area during their time here.

A memorable evening celebrating six outstanding sports legends of the Wiregrass!

On Saturday night, we proudly welcomed the 2026 Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class during our 32nd Annual Induction Ceremony. It was an incredible evening filled with stories, memories, and well-deserved recognition for individuals whose contributions have left a lasting impact on sports across our region.

The game of baseball allowed Brian Meadows the opportunity to travel from coast to coast during his MLB career. He played in several of our nation’s largest cities during those years.

But make no mistake, the city of Troy will always be his hometown. He lives there now while serving with the city’s parks and recreation team.

He’s honored by being selected to join the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame. It means even more that it comes from the local folks.

Today, we introduce you to the only Troy native to ever play Major League Baseball. Brian Meadows earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors back in 1994 while finishing a standout career at Charles Henderson High School.

Brian became a Florida Marlin when the team selected him in the 3rd round of the MLB draft. He made his major league debut in 1998 and set the Marlins rookie franchise record with 11 wins that season. He broke the 10-win mark again the following year. He played in the majors through 2006 and made stops in San Diego, Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay.

Brian now lives back home where he works with the Troy Parks and Recreation department. That's where Dan Smith was able to surprise him recently with the news that he was being inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame.

Marshall Smith literally traveled the world serving athletes as an athletic trainer during his career. He's served everywhere from the Atlanta Olympics to the World University Games in Spain.

He was a part of Troy University national championships in baseball and football and even spent a few years in the MLB with the Braves and Tigers organizations.

But for the better part of the past three decades, Marshall has been a staple on Wiregrass fields and courts, helping our local athletes strive toward their peak performance. That's why it means so much to him to be honored by the local folks as he's inducted into this year's class of the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame.

Multiple generations of Wiregrass athletes can thank Marshall Smith for his knowledge and career as a long-time athletic trainer.

He worked with several high schools and then as head athletic trainer at Troy University. He also spent time with several therapy businesses in Dothan as well.

Get this. Marshall was one of only 20 athletic trainers in America asked to serve at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

He’s been honored by the state as a member of the Alabama Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame. And now he joins our other inductees as the newest members of the Wiregrass Hall of Fame!

His family recently surprised him by collecting well wishes from some of Marshall’s friends and local sports legends.

Auburn Football fans will remember our next inductee as a first team All-SEC tight end back in the late 1980s.

Congratulations to Eufaula native Walter Reeves on his induction into the 2026 class of the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame!

Walter earned All-State honors at Eufaula High School before his years at Auburn. He was then drafted in the 2nd round of the NFL draft and played in almost 100 games over his 7-year pro career.

Walter recently received a call from fellow Hall of Fame member Mike Henry, who informed him of this honor.

🎙️ THE REST OF THE STORY: Mitzi Hasty’s Wild Jump to Division I 🎙️

Earlier this week, we shared the exact moment Mitzi found out she was being inducted into this year's Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame class. 🏆

Today, we're looking back at the incredible hurdle she had to clear just to take the field for Troy State.

- High School: Mitzi graduated from Ashford High School, where the Yellow Jackets still played slow-pitch softball.
- College: She arrived at Troy just as the Trojans were playing fast-pitch AND jumping straight into NCAA Division I.

Imagine moving to the college level and having to learn a completely different version of your sport against elite D1 pitching! 🤯

The steep learning curve didn't stop her. She absolutely crushed it:
🥇 School Record: Her record for career triples still stands today.
🥉 Top 3 All-Time: Batting average, hits, runs scored, and stolen bases.

Welcome to the Hall of Fame, Mitzi Hasty!

There's nothing quite like the moment you find out. Here's the exact moment Mitzi (McLendon) Hasty discovered she's officially being inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026!

From her days dominating the Wiregrass to rewriting the record books in college, Mitzi has always been a champion:

🔹 Ashford High School Icon: Led the Yellow Jackets to the 1992 State Slowpitch Championship and took home Tournament MVP honors.
🔹 Troy University Legend: Joined Troy's inaugural Division I team in 1994, leading them to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
🔹 Record-Smasher: A 3-time All-Conference First-Team selection who shattered the career hits record (256) and still holds the Troy record for career triples!
🔹 Hall of Fame Legacy: Already a 2019 Troy Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, she now takes her rightful place among the greatest to ever play in the Wiregrass.
