We’ve just started our profiles of our new inductees, but we need to take just a minute to congratulate a member of our 2025 class on a remarkable achievement this week.

Congratulations to Troy assistant coach Adam Godwin and the entire Trojan baseball team on an unbelievable, historical run that ended yesterday in Omaha!

Adam is a former Trojan standout and was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame during last year’s ceremony.

Thank you to the entire Troy University baseball team for providing an unprecedented level of excitement over the past few weeks for all of Trojan Nation. We’re extremely proud of how you’ve represented our Wiregrass area on the national stage!

Thought it would be appropriate to highlight one of our Troy Trojan baseball legends today as we anticipate the Trojans’ next step in their World Series journey this afternoon.

Wade Miller proved to be a record-breaker as a standout at George W. Long High School and at Troy University. He led the Rebels to 4 state titles while breaking the national high school season home run record with 30 long balls during the 2000 season.

Then at Troy, he earned All-American honors while posting a career .438 batting average. You can also find him listed all throughout the top 10 in several other stats.

We’re excited to share the moment when Drew’s dad, also his former high school coach and now fellow Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame member, Earl Miller surprises his son with the news of his induction.

The Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame proudly congratulates our President, Jon Johnson, on being named the 2026 Mel Allen Media Award recipient by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

This prestigious honor recognizes a lifetime of excellence in sports media, and few are more deserving than Jon. His 37-year career as sports editor of the Dothan Eagle, along with his leadership at the state and regional level, has left a lasting impact on sports journalism across Alabama. From his service as president of the Alabama Sports Writers Association to his continued contributions to Troy University Athletics, Jon’s dedication to telling the stories of athletes and communities has been second to none.

Jon has also been an integral part of our organization, currently serving as President of the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame and helping preserve and celebrate the rich sports history of our region.

We are incredibly proud to call Jon one of our own. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.

Izell Reese earned his share of honors on the football field. He capped off his high school career by leading the Northview Cougars in interceptions before walking on at UAB. Not only did Izell eventually earn his scholarship, but he holds top 10 career numbers in Blazers history in tackles and interceptions. Throw in 7 years in the NFL and over 200 career tackles. That's a pretty impressive resume.

It's all come full circle, and you can find Izell right back on the football field here in Dothan. The old Grandview Elementary School is now the Izell Reese Community Center. It's where he's helping Wiregrass youth find their passion for the game as part of NFL Flag.

Being elected to the 2025 class of the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor for the Dothan native. It's one he's excited to share with his family and friends next Saturday night at the Wiregrass Rehab Center. Join us by purchasing tickets here: https://shorturl.at/0HHHh
